??? maybe 15 years ago when they used a lot of Mitsubishi engineering yes, but now it's all pretty much in-house?

I think you need to look a little more to the west, that gigantic country called China, if you wanna talk abot car replicators...

I read in my latest Motortrend that the Genesis 4 cylinder engine is basically the same engine that the Mitsubishi Evolution has just detuned, Mitsubishis 2.0 is a world engine or something.

That Genesis is just a Tiburon with a new handle. :iono: Nice car though.

I read in my latest Motortrend that the Genesis 4 cylinder engine is basically the same engine that the Mitsubishi Evolution has just detuned, Mitsubishis 2.0 is a world engine or something.

It's a GEMA engine so it's part of the partnership between Chrysler/Mitsubishi/Hyundai. In the program all three companies use the same basic engine blocks (1.8L 2.0L 2.4L) and then build the top end to meet their needs. While all 3 spent the same amount of money on the program the original engine block was built and designed by Hyundai. So it's not taken from the Evo and its not detuned, it's only similarity is the block which Hyundai designed anyway.

GEMA engines are in:
Genesis
SRT-4
Evo
and many lesser cars

IF you want to really face off a good setup.

Ever since the Genesis has been produced, it has started every car maker in a scamper to try and do a compact/mid size RWD coupe.

Nissan is in talks to RE DO the 240SX, not sure if they will just go with a 2.4L or if they will opt for a new name, but I am sure they will try and do something with the Altima platform to make it RWD, or offer a "350Z" platform car with a 2.4L 4cyl engine instead, maybe a 2.0L Turbo... who knows?

Toyota/Subaru had been found out from the get go on their concept and production of a working car for both companies. Toyota is to recieve a RWD 2.5L Boxter engine-d coupe, that is said to have anywhere from 200HP maybe more?!?... Or even offer a similar motor that is in the WRX. All we do know is that Subaru wont allow the Toyota version to be AWD, due to direct competition... All I now is, it could be the sexiest sounding Toyota ever produced! Expect if the car hits showrooms to be called the Celica once more! Finally!!!

Scion, even though its still Toyota, the Scion TC is an ancient beast at this leg in the race. Can we see something come off the Toyo/Subaru RWD coupe? I doubt it, but its possible. With the Scion brand being so popular in the US/CAN, it could still be possible that the "Celica" remake could be cross branded or even just branded as a Scion TC to replace the older model!? Only time will tell once the concepts are made and production dates are finally set in stone... All I can say, you saw what happened with the new Scion IQ.

Kia Yes...Kia, that same simple car company that just seems to press out crap after crap car, they are serious about a Coupe that can keep up with the big boys! Most I can find is pics, some info about motors (2.0L Turbo) with a guess around 230-250HP, name is just gonna be called the KOUP. Expect it to be around next year sometime summer-ish. Just dont expect it to be RWD, a FWD platform is prolly gonna be the setup for this concept.

Honda, well since Honda scrapped all plans for the S3000...could this be a hoax? Or could it just be the fly under the radar approach that Honda needs to try and make something better if the Genesis has no other contender. Dont count Honda out in this fight...I dont see them becoming like Toyota and focusing on the "people's car" approach, they still have the ability and know-how to make a badass RWD sportscar.

Its going to be a fun year coming up for the automotive community, we lost alot of good cars with the whole world economy going to crap, but it kinda opened some doors for new and worthy contenders. Hopefully this will only be the start of once more the compact sportscar wars. P

I was taking a look at the genesis the other day and it's actually a very beautiful car in person, and I'd take the turbo 4cyl in a heartbeat. In today's market there is no new car you can grab with a 4cyl turbo that is rwd and a coupe. The scion tc and the civic si are the only things close to comparison. The evo and sti are just big beasts that don't really drive the same way a sleek coupe will.

It's other 6cyl brother is crap compared to the rest. For a average price tag of 25-30k at the dealership you can grab a camaro, a 370z, or even a used 350z and still end up with a better car, that has tons of race heritage slammed into the car.

Mazda is developing a new RX-7 and RX-9(which will replace the RX-8). They are also developing a 1.6l 2 Rotor Engine that will suposedly produce 270hp NA.

The car I really want to see go into production was the Mazda Kabura.

I owned a V-6 Genesis Coupe (Grand Touring w/auto) for a while. After dealing with vague steering and a general lack of customer service from several Hyundai dealers, I traded it in... on another Yaris.

rofl.... yea, I think it's clear hyundi has horrible customer service if they have commercials saying they will repo your car if you lose your job. While saturn and i think all gmc dealers will pay your payments for 9 months.

you do realize that they are not repossessing the car, they are taking it back into stock.....

just one of the numerous google results. (http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/heres-your-bail-out-hyundai-launches-free-return-policy/)

saturn and gm will pay your payments for the 9 months, in turn you will owe that amount plus possibly interest at the end of your terms. kind of like asking for an extension. and if you can't pay it they (GM) will repo the car...but hey think what you want, after all I still know I won't buy a saturn especially with the rumors still floating about them being gone by 2010..

so in the end would you rather walk away from the car and have your credit intact, or let GM try and screw you once more (READ FIRST TIME=GOVT BAILOUT) before they tank?

Last time I checked they rated the MPG for like 12 city and 20 hwy...too horrible for anyone to even consider buying.

Now if they take a 1.3L 2 Rotor and turbo that thing...then we are talking. Same MPG range as the crappy 1.6L 2 Rotor and end up with a 50HP increase. 320(hp)

IDK...with the curb weight around 2600 pounds and 270HP...A lot of companies are gonna have to put their cars on diets....NISSAN....not to mention any names.
