My Yaris died and needs a new computer. Dealer tells me the warranty goes to 60k and I just made it...only have about 56k. The new computer will only have a one year (unlimited mileage) warranty.
mine is a 2007, Hatchback.
I heard that the computers are a problem in the Corolla and the yaris....
Anyone else have this issue?

Really there's been no modifications other than some fog lights more than a year ago....the car just cut-out, the engine light went on, and it keep rolling with no power....didn't stall, engine sounded fine - just wouldn't move much...restarting didn't help...AAA towed it to the dealer...they pushed it in....part is on Back Order...got a free 2009 matrix to zip around town in...

The same thing happen to me on my 1992 Civic. However in this case I know the issue was related to bad mechanic service. ECU failure was right after the coil was changed out. Anyone guess as to why the coil change out cause the ECU to fail?
Simple because the D###A$$ didn't disconnect the battery and left key on while changing out the ignition coil. I hope that SOB limped for a month afterwords. The 50 AMP ignition fuse also failed a few day later.

It could be just a lemon, nothing to worry about.. like REALLY...
Now, it could be really WRONG when the garage sees your new ECU and says "ah ha!! you've got yours changed too!" as i heard about my dad's 91 plymouth voyageur... but i think this is very likely to happen. See never going to happen. hehe

Wow! Yesterday it was on backorder & would take a few days - today I get a call @ 2:30 and the job is done. Apparently, they were able to locate the part and have it overnighted!
Swapped the free rental Matrix this evening and the Yaris is better than new...nice shiny ECM under the hood...runs great-no complaints....
Supposely I have a one-year, unlimited miles warranty on the replacement part.
Anyone else have an issue like this? I can't believe I was the only one...

Did they keep the bad ECU? It would be very interesting to see what failed.
Mitsubishi had an issue a few years back with bad capacitors. I repaired a friend's Mazda pickup's ECM that had the cap issue (Mitsu made the ECM for Mazda).

Are you able to confirm it's a new ECU or you're going on their word?

toyota dealers usually have to submit the broken parts back to toyota canada to get paid for them, so chances are good they just swapped the ecu...quick and easy

Update:
Confirmed: ECM is new...no problems other than the dopey dealer disconnected the air cleaner and didn't put it back together.
1200 miles on new ECM. knock on wood...aproaching the 60k mark fast...
Cheers
