I bring my food from home most of the time. Saves me like $50 a week. There may be the occasional lunch meal from work but not too often. It can get expensive.

I used to just eat near work. Then when I worked less hours, I realized how much I was saving money just bringing in food from home. Its usually simple, a bottle of water, a small snack, and a frozen food dinner or leftovers from last nights dinner.
I just bring food to work/school since it's cheaper.
Eat out occasionally with friends if they match my schedule...

Im usually too busy to stop for lunch, so whenever I stop real quick between appointments to grab a new pack of cigarettes, I just grab a premade sandwich for like 2.99

I always bring my lunch. We only get 25 minutes first break and 15 2nd break. However, I get paid for every second that I am on the job. Usually the produce inspectors give me all kinds of free samples so I never bring or buy fruit.

If I don't bring something, I will run to the grocery store ... they have a salad bar, and if that doesn't look good I'll grab a South Beach pizza or lean cuisine from the freezer. Fast food is a major no-no.

I eat out every other day so it's not boring nor expensive. Plus fast-food everyday burns me out by the end of the week

I use to work two full time jobs and didn't have time to stop even for fast food. I got into the habit of making a sandwich to eat while I drive. Now I make a sandwich and take it to work and eat when I have a chance. It's not about money, but saving time and calories.

I'm out of town alot. I love bringing a lunch, you get bored of restaurants after a while, especially alone.
Having said that, I still do eat out. Mostly when: A) work keeps me away from home longer than 24 hours, or; B) they call me with such short notice that I don't get to pack a lunch (like yesterday).
Twenty-four hours doesn't sound like much, but I figured it out to be about twenty bucks of meals a day that are saved - and when you're away from home as frequently as I am, that typically means a minimum savings of $200, $400 being more common.
That's my entire Yaris payment!
i only get a half-hour for lunch so i usually just bring leftovers from the previous night or just grab a soda and candy bar from the vending machine(which i don't count as 'eating out'). yeah, i'm poor.
hahaha diarrea, awesome!
$1 for lunch sound great :w00t:
what I really don't like is eating lunch @ my desk :(

Thomas,
When you guys go out to eat, do you say "Let's go out for Thai food today?"

I have an office space all to myself most days. It has a microwave, mini-fridge and a sink so it rocks for leftovers, reusable containers and reusable dishes/utensils. It's just my wife and I at home so when we cook it's easy to plan for leftovers. I also keep a few frozen organic dinners on hand for the rare occasion we're out of leftovers.
I use an insulated lunch bag that I've had for 15 years and put the leftovers in clear plastic containers that I bought from a thrift store. I add in some fruit and dessert sometimes.
I do eat out but only 1-3 times per month, usually just when someone wants a lunch meeting or a bunch of us are going together. I don't eat fast food and aside from some sandwich shops there aren't any fast food places or franchise restaurants in the town where I work (this is by design), so even when I eat out it's fairly healthy stuff.
Here's a tip for microwaving leftovers (or just about anything else): Use another dish to cover the one your food is in, such as a saucer plate over a bowl or one dinner plate atop another. Once finished simply rinse it off and let it air dry. No disposable items required and your food stays moist.

yup...i do the same...plus a can of coffee...
I've stockpiled a shelf on my desk with many packs of Maruchan Ramen and Seaweed... lunch has cost me 20 cents a day compared to $7 at our cafeteria (where I was fooled for over a year). I feel as if I'm getting a paid lunch by doing this!

99% of the time, I bring lunch from home.
First, it is healthier. Our cafeteria food is horrible, and even the Chinese food they sell there will give you the shits if you eat it too often (don't ask me how I know!).
Secondly, it is cheaper. The $50/week estimate is not far off. Even in our crappy cafeteria, I would spend close to $10 for lunch and a drink.
Lastly, I can skip my "lunch break" by eating while I am working, thus I get to go home an hour earlier. It was the standard set by the folks on my contract before I signed on, and several of us continue it to this day despite being on a different contract. I would rather eat and work and get the day done quicker. When school is in, it allows me to get home in time to pick the kids up.
On the odd occasion I will go out to eat, but it only happens when it is someone's going-away luncheon or some other special event. Even on the rare days that I forget my lunch, I will still only run to the cafeteria to bring something back to my desk.
Cheers! M2
