WAY off topic: wall mounting LCD

I want to mount a 52" above the fireplace, but there are no studs until the edge of the fireplace. It's about a 4'-5' gap. I was thinking maybe getting a strip of painted plywood and mounting that to the studs, then attaching the mount onto that. Think it would work? :iono:

Rip the wall out and build a 2x4 frame mounted to the chimney and the 2 studs, and put drywall back over. Its maybe 30 dollars more materials than plywood, and your multi thousand dollar TV won't fall off the wall.
