the Aura, Outlook, and Vue are going to stick around for a few years and then it's likely that Renault-Nissan vehicles are going to be rebadged as Saturns under Penske.

Rumor has it the Renault-Samsung vehicles are likely choices, if so then Saturn will just be another pointless brand since they are all just rebadged Nissans anyway. But I bet Penske wouldn't mind importing some of the current Renault lineup.

I bet you also want cheap cost, easy-to-find refueling stations, cheap fuel and a safe fuel cell, none of which are any more real today than the vehicle you speak of.

By the time hydrogen fuel cells are viable they will already be obsolete, at best relegated to range extenders for other propulsion systems. Battery electric vehicles (BEV, or EV) are the future.

It's important to understand that you are not being attacked; your idea is. No matter what propulsion system the Hummer (or any other over-sized vehicle) uses it will always and forever be an absolute pig for using more resources than necessary to be created (you simply do not need a 7,000 pound vehicle to move your human-sized ass around) and to move around (even if it ran on solar power it would require an inexcusable amount of solar panels and batteries to function as compared to realistic vehicles).

Hydrogen fuel cells are also a touchy subject as the AAMA keeps going on and on about it and marketing it despite it being a far off, under-delivering and tertiary idea that a lot of resources are being dedicated to instead of more pragmatic options.

The entire country of Japan gets by just fine without a single vehicle any larger than a typical minivan.

The entirety of Europe gets by with little more.

Studies have shown that in the U.S. less than 3% of all SUVs and trucks are ever used for anything other than commuting and basic errand-running.

I have fit 350 pounds of e-cycling equipment in my Yaris. 4 adults with snow gear and skis/snowboards on the back. 3 adults and 2 mountain bikes on the back. A big pile of dirt. Landscaping stone for a neighbor. 2 dogs, one at 75 pounds and the other at 45 pounds. A mini-fridge and microwave. 3 bicycles and 2 scooters. 2 2U servers, installation tools and equipment, portable cart, portable chairs and 2 overnight bags. When I want larger loads moved I have them delivered or rent a truck.

I have seen a Suburban used to carry a bouquet of flowers. An H2 to carry a bin of mail. A Ram 3500 used by a suburban commuter as his daily driver.

The reality shown here is that incredibly few people need anything larger than a compact, and the industrial sector doesn't need vehicles even 1/2 the size of what they have.

The unchecked and out of control consumption in America has spawned unadulterated excess such as the Hummer. One cannot expect to come into a subcompact car forum, visit a thread regarding a manufacturer of mostly compact and subcompact vehicles, then post about pining for the vehicle that has come to represent everything that is wrong with American largess and environmental apathy and not expect to get called out for it. :iono:

I was going to buy an H3, Escalade or a Denali - but I thought the Yaris was cuter and it is better on gas so it won in the end. I have no issues with spending $50k+ on a big ass gas guzzling truck or SUV.

Why? Because they look awesome sitting on 22"s (or 24"s) with tinted windows
Why? Because I work 40+ hours a week and feel I can spend my money on whatever I want to

Well I have a family, and I have dogs (big ones) and unless im just going to work I usually necessitate something bigger than a hatchback yaris.

But, clearly this is a never ending battle so I'm just going to say that you guys are right and good luck with saving the plant!

The HX was an awesome idea and I've said many times that it showed GM was moving in the right direction, they just couldn't get past the obsurd reputation that has been given to HUMMER and there is no way a government run GM was going to support it.

No need to attack what you percieve to be someone's "ideas" even though those ideas were never mentioned in a thread that has nothing to do with those ideas. The original Hummer HX comment was closely related to the thread and didn't intend to start an argument. Some of us enjoy threads that don't deal with fuel efficiency and saving the enviroment because it's our global responsibility and would appreciate it if you didn't force them all to be locked by starting arguments that don't have any place in the thread to begin with.

I was reading today that Penske plans on sourcing parts and labor worldwide with the hope of manufacturing vehicles in the USA at some point in the future . Looks like Penske is going for the jugular .....
