Got back from my trip a couple of days ago and finally got to work on my 09 3dr. These are my first 2 upgrades of many to come: Autometer Tach and Scangauge 2.
I mounted the tachometer to the pillar after scratching my head a million times trying to come up with a way to mount it to the steering column cover. The install took me about 30 minutes with decent T-taps and I'm very happy with the results! I love that Toyota interiors are so easy to take apart and rebuild. ***notes: 10K RPM is overkill for a Yaris - 09 has different wiring color than prior years - I imagined the curtain air bags bursting on me and breaking my neck when removing the pillar cover at least 10 times***

The ScanGauge II was even faster as it just plugs into the OBD2 port. I mounted it above my rearview mirror to keep it out of the way. I ran the cable under the dash, up the pillar, and it is tucked away in the headliner. I think I will eventually drill and place a nicer looking grommet that I can run the cable through.
