I've been checking out the bumper protectors and I don't like any of them. I load equipment into the back of my yaris frequently, and I want the protector to cover the entire lip and the raised sides. so, i thought, maybe i can DIY it!
my question is, what material do you think I should use and how do you think I should go about it? I thought of using the black carpet runner stuff in the cargo mat DIY but I wonder about it's durability. I would think it would work though...
Thoughts?

hmm, not a bad idea. If i go that route I'll post pics. I'm still wondering if carpet runner and 3m adhesive wouldn't do the trick, but the bedliner thing would be easier to get clean edges and contours with...

Been thinking about the same thing...
My plan was to use surf board sticky pads cut and fit the way I like. They're soft, fairly thick and durable, come in various designs/colors, and aren't too pricey. Oh, and no worries about the adhesive being able to handle a little water... :-) I'm liking the honey-comb one I saw lately. It's a black and blue swirly thing, a bit over 1/4" thick in the high spots, and the blue matches the paint well.
I didn't much like the dull gray one I saw at the local dealer.
