so i was driving to milton last night to meet up w/ victorddr from yarisworld who was going to buy my gold wheels and tires......just got thru all the contruction when i smoked a 4' x 4' x 2" steel lid of some sort (or thats what it looked like, anyways)

hit it HARD at 120kph or so....

foglights were still working and i didnt hear anything busted so i continued to the next exit which was my exit anyhow....

rolled down the window to hear plastic scraping on asphalt....blarg!

got to the tim hortons and parked 'er. checked the front bumper which looked fine under the light of the timmies sign....but notice smoke under the hood.

popped the hood to see my coolant spilling on the ground....rad was all bent out of place...*sigh*

checked things out w/ the tow truck driver and it looked like the oil pan and the rad had been smucked and the rad bracket was totally mangled.....

so its at my local toyota dealer now getting looked at for insurance....took my stuff out of it today i id have sworn the engine looked crooked in the engine bay.....so we'll see what happens

Sorry to hear this. Hope it was a CAA tow from Milton to k-dub.

10 minutes from my house, I didn't know a YW member by the name of victorddr existed. Makes me wonder how many other lurkers are in the neighbourhood.

write off? :D

that does suck.. but hey, those road construction signs/cones/barrels are really a bitch when hit. I hit one of those 4 ft high round ones with my suzuki swift a few years back (6years??) it smashed my fog light into the rad and mangled the bumper, which didn't look bad and the car was fine... It turned out the whole car was not straight anymore... windshield started cracking, dash did not sit flush, pillars did not clip anymore, roof lining did not line up...

good luck with yours!

last year,i hit road sign that fell off from the street lamp with my father's accord. It smashed the engine hood and windshield. No one injured.Unfortunately, the highway operator in my country didn't take any responsibility for that.

likely not, im sure whatever it was was removed from the highway tuesday night

its a no-fault claim on my part so it just counts as a comprehensive claim so my rates wont go up

Yaris are reliable but not rugged. The other day I was tooling behind some child of God and considered doing the shoulder to get around them. There, on the shoulder, was a concrete block just sitting there. I felt a cold chill thinking of what it would have done to my car.

My older cars might have hacked it. An SUV or Truck would have skirted it easily.

A Yaris? No way!!

I usually slow down in Construction areas. It's the law. I also am worried about construction workers being so engrossed in their tasks that they step out in front of me. It's happened in the past.

Gene please tell me why you even thought about passing on the shoulder? Just humor me please , for a pretty smart dude that was a pretty retarded thing to contemplate:iono:

I will on VERY RARE OCCASIONS use the shoulder for slow speed passes. Especially when someone on a two lane road has decided to make a left hand turn.

I'd be lying to you if I said I wasn't cautious while doing it, taking care not to be hit from my left hand side. I also look for obstacles like debris.

Looking onto the shoulder for me is a natural thing to do.

For "Go to Hell" plans the shoulder of a road is a very natural place to run towards when the world in front of you is going to hell. You should use it on occasion so that you are not reluctant to use it in an escape plan. Ditto with drifts and controlled skids.

new bumper? if not, how is the fit of the bumper on the sides (where the pull out tabs go)

I ask in preparation for a forthcoming body shop repair. I'm not too sure about places knowing how to remove the bumper without breaking those tabs.....
