Probably a card trick.... I'm not sure how it's done but I suspect that the cards are ordered and he gulls someone into focusing on his voice while he picks the "companion" card.

The memory trick - there is a bit of chicanery at work here.... like how fortune tellers work. They ask leading questions and "guide" to the memory by shaping how people recall things. People want to believe things and go along with it. This is part of the reason that "eye witness" accounts are unreliable - people have actually seen wrong color cars, wrong color and so on.

I'm glad that there are people like Darren about showing this stuff off. Because the less scrupulous folks who have Darren's skills are out there preying upon the gullible.
