I have a 2009 Hatchback - 6mo old. This morning had a rough engine start (cranked engine, seemed to hesistate before turning over) - this has not happened before.

Day before I filled up w/76 brand gasoline (standard octane) - I've previously only filled up w/Chevron. I also reset maintenance light (changed oil a few weeks ago).

Do you think it was gas difference, or something I need to watch?

Hesitating BEFORE cranking over isn't bad gas. I wonder if your battery's on its way out?

forgot to mention - the hesitation has not happened again - only the one time.

Is it when you crank it and it continues to try and start for a second or two like your holding
the key but you have actually let go then after 1 or 2 seconds it starts. If so, I've had this problem and
so have a couple other members. Its nothing to worry about.

Brian, that's exactly what happened. Relieved that it's no issue.

Any idea on the cause of it?

I have no idea what causes it. It happens about once every 6 months to me. No one
that I know of has had any negative effects from this though.

had the weather changed at all? if you've had the car 6 months you've likely not experienced an entire season of weather yet.

my car sometimes does not appreciate high humidity. then again my engine is on it's way out anyway.

I didn't see your thread when I posted mine, but I'm having the same experience now and then:

76 octane???
thats more than a tad lower than what is needed.

the standard fuel around here is 87 octane.

I think he meant the gas station 76

the slow cranking issue.. i've had it, 3 days in a row until i changed my start up habit. I don't know what could have caused it as i used it the same for a whole year when it happened.

Thanks for the input folks. Problem has not happened again - just that once.

Also found old post on same problem http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12167.
