View Full Version : 40.2 MPG!!!

Thought i would normal withouit having to putting my footdown. after driving from nottingham to manchester roughly 70miles. (30miles motorway and rest country or town roads) previously it was like 32mpg

i got 40.2 MPG would have been more if there wasnt a crash and was held up for like 45mins.

I had my girlfriends '09 5spd loaded to the roof (moving 300 miles back to my old town) and while maintaining speeds of 60-65mph I got over 43mpg. Gotta love these cars. My gf was following in my car (07 auto) and she got over 34mpg.

the 5 speed got better mileage (loaded up) than the automatic on the identical route. as Borat would say, "that's a surprise not."

No surprise at all. But also, they had different drivers. And someone following another car has to frequently tweak their speed, using the gas and brakes more than when directing their own path. If they weren't following closely, they could have been driven at very different speeds. There's not an inherent 34 vs. 43 MPG difference between the auto and 5 speed. Maybe 1-2 MPG, comparable to the EPA highway ratings.

of course that is true. there is no way there would be that kind of differential given the same driving style, route, etc...though i think it could be as high as 2-4 mpg. still, the second driver would have to have some poor habits to achieve 34 mpg in a yaris on what was a primarily highway trip.

Good job with the 1.8. I'm sure your mileage will get better and better as you get used to your yaris.
