engine bay cleaning

hey guys this may sound noob but i'm planning to do engine bay cleaning myself. what are some parts that i need to look out for to cover before i pressure wash it in my garage. some parts i already used some wet wipes to wipe my valve covers, oil cap and radiator cap before seeking opinion:cry:. i know the oil cap doesn't do anything but isn't the radiator cap release pressure or something? does wipping the outside (sticker side) do anything to it, i don't suppost it releases gas through the sticker??:iono:

You don't need to worry about anything. Don't use high pressure. Just let the water come
out of the hose normally.

i use my pressure washer all the time
if you have an aftermarket intake i would cover that up

The stock air intake is that tube that curls up like a ram's horn in front of the air filter box. Don't spray a lot of water in it. (A little will simply sit in the bottom of the air box till it evaporates.) I don't think there's anything else under the hood you can hurt with water, as long as you leave the plugs and caps closed.

I agree. A little water on most electrical components will probable do no harm but, better safe than sorry. :smile:

I dont know how many times Ive tried to help people fix their cars who washed the engine/engine compartment with water either from a hose or from a pressure washer. You get water into the wiring/components/connectors and all kinds of mayhem ensues. Big mistake! Theres no point at all in cleaning the engine! Wash your underware if you fell the need to cleanse something.
Oh but youre going to do it anyway I just know it!

The electrical connections are sealed well enough to prevent wanter from getting into them.
If you use a high pressure then you risk the water getting into them. You get water in the engine
bay when you wash the car and it rains and that doesn't hurt anything. I just avoid using high
pressure and not spraying water directly on the electrical connections and I've never had a problem.

Cover your air filter if you have an aftermarket one. Spray everything down with a thick layer of degreaser. Let sit for 2 minutes and then hose down/pressure wash down. when you're done wipe everything down with a chamios and let air dry for an hour. after that hit up your plastics with some quick detailer to make them shine like new.

That's how I clean mine. Works great.
