View Full Version : Yaris=hot oven??

This goes to all the people in the Gulf Coast region that have been experiencing The DROUGHT.

Is is just me or does the Yaris do a "fantastic" job of turning itself into an oven even though it is parked in the sun for a mere 10 minutes?

Lately, I have been needing to open all the windows and open up the hatch to let all that heat out before starting up and going. I even have the freaking sunshade up when its parked! At mid-day, I arrive to my car and it feels like I am shoving my face into an oven. And the A/C ain't doing a fantastic job either. My old Ford Escort could get so cold that the windows would begin showing condensation. This car? I have the A/C all the way to (4) and it still feels like its not doing enough.

Just making sure my car isn't defective or something.

.

Tinted windows make a HUGE difference.

Shit man. I have 20% tint on all windows and the sunshade up at all times when I am not driving. It's still hot! The only savior is lowering the windows just a tad to let some air out when its parked. But I only do that in places where its "somewhat safe" to do it.

We have had 90+ degree heat with 90%+ humidity the last couple of days here, and when I turn my AC on and it gets going full blast my windshield gets condensation on it and the top of the middle vent piece above my radio also gets condensation - my eyebrows start freezing and that's when I turn it down to one and take it off defrost.

So I don't know ... yes, it's SUPER hot when I get in the car - but it's 90 freakin' degrees outside so it should be. lol

I'm with ya, I'm driving a black Yaris down here in San Antonio and I never use the a/c, even when the temps are triple-digits as they have been for the past few weeks.

Of course, I also drive an open Jeep so I am probably so fried that I don't even feel the heat anymore. And the car I had prior to the Yaris had black leather seats in it...and no working a/c!

Drive a few minutes with the windows open and the a/c going to blow out all that hot air, then it will work better. Or find someplace covered to park...

Cheers! M2

Tinted windows, a sun shade and window visors so you can leave the windows cracked ftw! I, too, never use the a/c.

Thats what I've been needing. Some window visors!

I ain't gonna lie. I have always been a winter guy. I could walk outside with a light sweater and some shorts and still be fine. Summers? Never like them.

Well...to be specific. Summers with humidity I never did like. If its dry air, yeah I'll wing it.

Dude, it was 101 in Dallas today with humidity over 70%. Window tint and a sunshade on the windshield will only do so much in that kind of heat.

And leaving the windows down a bit to let the air flow through? If you think air that's hot enough to compete with what a hair dryer puts out will keep your car cool... I've got some bottom land to sell you :) just don't ask me what it's on the bottom of. lol

It was already 80 degrees at 6am so, yeah, car + texas heat = commercial grade oven temps inside the car.

Stay cool y'all. This kind of heat can kill folks that over do it on being too active.

Vegas here. Regularly get over 100F in the summer. I have window vent visors and a windshield sunshade. If I have to park outside, I put up the sunshade and since I have vent visors, I lower all the windows down to a little higher than the bottom edge of the vent visors. I also got a steering wheel cover so I don't burn my hands on the hard rubber steering wheel.

Keeps the interior from getting too hot.

Window tinting helps alot too.

BTW I feel sorry for the guys driving black yarii!!

My old (Navy blue) Honda didn't have AC either so I usually forget to use it. Doesn't do much anyway. I've ordered a sunshade for the Yaris, should be here in a week or two. Can't wait !!!

Stay cool and hydrated everybody.

Small interior volume + hot weather + body heat = mobile sauna

Pretty hot here lately and my black one gets quite warm but it cools down pretty quick once I get going... windows open to suck out the hot air and A/C on low fan/lowest temp until it gets cold...

My Nautical Metallic Blue sedan gains heat much faster than my Black Talon ever did.
I'm searching for a competent tint shop now.

I suggest a small turkey, some herbs and maybe throw in some veggies. If you're gonna have an oven you might as well make good use of it.

We've yet to see 90 here in NJ this year. Not even close. Roll your windows down. No ones gonna steal a Yaris. If its gonna rain then its too cloudy to heat the car up much.

The sedan probably gets hotter than the LB. Lots of glass in the windshield and back window, slanted way over to let the sun shine in. Yeah, it gets hot!

ya.. my sedan gets hot pretty quick. But i find the AC works wells.. I only use it on the highway (50mph limited highway, lmao at Quebec roads:( ) and it gets chill pretty fast.

LoL. I might as well get a bottle of water and pour it on the floor mat and let the steam rise to the top. Then go back inside and change into my towel and just sit the back seat. Maybe I should charge people for riding in car and using its Mobile Sauna feature.

A turkey? Hell no. I'd go with maybe a whole chicken stuffed into a duck. Let it simmer from 12 noon until maybe 4:30 or 5:00. Go to class to with a bottle of wine in a cooler and chicken/duck in the back seat. You'll have a nice dinner waiting for you in the parking lot when lecture is over.

park someplace safe then.... or get those window shade vent things so you can have your windows cracked a bit and nobody could tell.

This summer IS one of the hottest summers that we have had in the past several years. It it 107 degrees at my place here in East Texas. We normally don't see those temps until August.

Reason #2 I drive Polar White

I drive a Flint Mica and the wife drives a Polar White. I tested the inside temp of our cars the other day and the Polar White was only about 5 degrees cooler than the Flint Mica. May sound like a big difference but with 140 degrees and 135 degrees, theres not much of a difference.

A tech recently gave me the tip to wrap the A/C lines near the firewall under the ECU with insulating wrap to seriously boost the A/C's performance...

Cheers

It actually works? Can anyone else confirm that?

Its not I don't believe you, I just want to see if it wasn't an isolated incident.

My car gets hot sometimes. Usually it's in the backseat and there's another (usually attractive) person in the car.

one thing that very pleasantly surprised me on my 2009 Yaris liftback is how effective the AC is compared to my previous car- a Mazda 3 liftback

In sunny tropical Singapore many cars are fitted with what is known as solar film. Couple of brands that I googled that is available in the US are 3M and Solargard.

Down here we commonly use V-Kool or 3M.

you did both lines or just the return one

Just the Low Pressure line. If you did the other, smaller line, you're making it hotter.

The larger line should be insulated, only. Run your A/C for about 2-3 minutes and then touch the lines. The one that is cold to the touch should be the one that is insulated. Thats carrying cold air into the cabin.

The other line is sucking hot air out of the cabin. Let that sucker air out!
