Just wondering, HUUUMMMM
I looked at the link for find your car by COLOR and I looked at every
color and I noticed ONLY 2 cars that had the ''S'' package.
Are these rare???
As I drive my Yaris I am always looking for the ''S'' hactchback model
and it's been over 6 to 7 months since I've seen one.
But all I see are the standard versions
So did the majority of Yaris owners choose the standard Yaris over the
''S'' version???
How many of you guys and gals have an ''S'' hatchback??????
I wanna see some pics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think that the S package is rare because of the price. Most Yaris owners buy it because it's a great car, that looks good, and is inexpensive to buy. The S makes it as expensive as a Civic, or Corolla, bigger cars. Plus, buying the base model makes it easier to mod it they way they want to.
That being said, I got a used 08 S Sedan, but I got a great price on it. I've seen plenty of Yaris on the road, but I have yet to an S model. Makes me glad I found it! Obviously, I have the sedan, not the LB. But when you buy used, you take what you can get.
Here's mine:

I've only seen one 2009 S liftback on the road. I've seen a couple of 2008 S liftbacks, but that's it.
I see a good amount of sedans, though.

i think a lot of people opted not to get them due to the higher cost for just getting a lip and spoiler kit
if i traded in my yaris for another yaris, i doubt i would get an S

I agree. Most people are buying the car because it is a great car for the money. But, with the S, you get into a different price range. So, for most people it's not worth it just to get the kit.
I know that I could have bought a civic or whatever for a similar price, but my 09 S LB is on order.

Glad that ur happy that you saved some change for things u didnt need....I on the other hand, was able to spend a few more dollars and get what I really wanted. An "S". Not just for a spoiler and lip kit....but as I have stated in previous posts: The interior is different, the seats up front are shaped different and the cloth is solid black. Leather wrapped steering wheel and shifter. Little touches that made this car for me. I wasnt feeling the blue poka dot interior or the silver color parts inside. And I didnt pay a 3K difference. It was only slightly more then a comparable fully loaded non "S". To each there own I guess. I'm all for an S area as mentioned in an earlier post!

Congrats on buying a car you are happy with but let's be realistic. Most people chose a base model over the S model because the S package isn't worth paying lots more for.
NO model of the Yaris will ever be "Rare" or "Collectable".

back in jan when i got my other yaris i asked about the S and they told me there was only one polar white one in my region. and it would took like 2wks to get and thats if it wasnt already spoken for. i think someone just north of me bought it like a month later. but even when i mentioned it the dealer made it sound like they really weren't that interest in even attempting to inquire about it for me. i finally told them what i was really after and they had to dealer trade it with some place in K.C.

AGAIN.....no one here said it would be "collectible"! However, they ARE rare. Just because "most" have chosen not to or could not spend a little bit more money to get an "S" does not mean that the extras they come with are not "worth" the price. I have seen quite a few on here spend a penny modding their base Yaris with seat covers, after market tachs, and so forth. They not be worth the extra funds for you, but for some of us, it was. As stated before, to each their own. There sure are haters around huh?

I had the privilege of test driving both the standard & "S" liftback '08 before buying my Yaris. I had to wait two months for my '08 "S" liftback, before my dealer could deliver. Since I drove them both...I chose the "S" hands down for one reason (to be explained below).
In the mean time to close the deal since I sold my car, and didn't have any transportation the dealer gave me a loaner car to drive until they could deliver my "S". That loaner car was a standard Yaris '08 liftback which I thought was cool. It gave me time to get used to the Yaris before I got mine.
I'm happy and glad I held out for my "S" for one reason , and one reason only. The bolstered sport seats in the "S" are far superior to the seats in the standard Yaris liftback imo (and I drove a standard for 2 months waiting for my "S"). I'm tall and always had back pain, and the seating comfort between the standard, and "S" model liftback Yaris is like night and day (especially on long trips). It WAS my deciding factor on going with the "S".
Don't get me wrong....I like the "extras" the spoiler, and lip package, the "S" badging, leather trimmed steering wheel, and shifter. I also prefer the instrumentation of the "S" model over the standard model.
I prefer the black interior plastic and fabric used on the "S" model over the grey and polka dots used in the standard model. But what sold me most on getting the "S" model was the bolstered sport driver and passenger front seats. That in itself was worth the extra money, and my back thanks me for it
I do wish the "S" badge came with more HP though
P.S. Lookin' good TRDMarty....nice clean "S" ya got there.

While I've never really had issues with the seats in the standard Yaris liftback (I'm 6'5" tall, and regularly drive to and from Washington DC and Hartford CT) I could defiantly see that as a good reason to pick up the S. But your closing comment, I believe, hits on the major point of the car.
The "S" model should be faster.
Now, add in a few more ponies and everything else the "S" comes with, then you have an interesting car. Without it, hey, its everyone's personal choice on what they like and don't like, I just see it as overpriced accessories.
(Or we could just release the TS in the United States and have done with it)

I totally agree with you....(and please release the TS in the US) if you are going to put out an "S" model it SHOULD be faster, and have better performance mods then the standard model of that vehicle IMO. ***TAKE NOTE TOYOTA***!!!
You say it's overpriced accessories, and it may be if you just need a daily driver. But if you want to mod your Yaris like alot of us on here like to do going with the "S" model means you have that much less to do. And you can put your time and money into other mods like I've done.
And if I tried to take a standard '08 Yaris liftback, and try to transform it into an "S" it would take me alot more time , money, and energy doing so then just buying an "S" outright. Like was said above..."to each is own". For my situation going with the "S" was worth it for me...for others it might not be worth it. Do what you like...and be happy

brody9981 thanks for the compliment & Yarisright I agree 100% with the reasons for choosing the S over the standard. When I ordered mine from the dealer here in SoCal, they told me that they had never had anyone actually order an S before and that I was the 1st due to the fact that most people when they decide to go shopping for their car actually buy on instinct and whats on the lot. It took 90 days for my car to arrive from Japan and the day I picked it up at the dealer I had 6 different people ask me if I would consider selling it to them right then and there, yes 6 people because they didn't know about the S model being offered. From what everybody has told me that the dealer I went to is the largest dealer in the state of California and they checked the entire states inventory and not one S showed on their computer. So being a collector of muscle cars and whats rare in that field, I put 2 & 2 together and said, HUMMM, nobody's aware of these ''S'' Liftbacks = potential collector car!! This why I have chose to upgrade my car with Factory TRD options = potential collector car down the road and it's my daily driver.
Remember when you could go to the Chevy dealer and order a 69 Z-28?
Then in 69 you could order a COPO 69 Camaro (all aluminum 427 earthshaker engine)
The dealers didn't even know about this option. Today a COPO Camaro is VERY DESIREABLE and BIG money.
Again guys, count how many ''S'' Liftbacks you see in a month.
I'm always everyday on the look.
If you guys have any pics of your ''S'' Liftbacks, I would love to check out your rides.

Well I'll agree that once the typical lifespan of a Yaris is up it will be almost impossible to find an S model Yaris but that will be because they will all just be used up and junked. But being hard to find doesn't make a car collectable. As much as Yaris owners seem to love their cars, the Yaris just isn't a car that will ever gain the attention of collectors.

Yes it is city college. I got there about an hour early for class, so I snapped cell pics.
The S package is totally worth it for me, I think the 2009 S is one of the best body kits I have seen for the Yaris, not to mention the shiny silver fabric, dark trim interior, upgraded head unit (sat radio and ipod interface), tach, etc.. My only regreat is that I tried to save money by not getting the power package with alloy (I have the power package with steel). By saving $400, I now will want to spend upwards of $1500 somewhere down the road to get rims, tires, and rear disc brakes.
For now, I just bought chrome trim rings and those cool (I thin they're cool) center caps from mid 90's tercel/corolla. pic here:
http://www.hubcaps-wheelcovers.com/photo/IMG_3431_1.JPG
and spacers to make them sit flush with the fender.
Here is another pic, I call it "Yaris Wagon S" I made my back line up with the back of the sedan. Wouldn't it be cool if there was a wagon like this instead of the 5 door hatch?)

even Corolla (S), is a way faster than the base model, I don't know why yaris "S" using the same engine as the base model:confused::confused:
Actually, according to one of the dealers here, the Corolla S is just like the Yaris S, cosmetic changes only. No change to the engine. According to the Toyota web site, the 2010 Corolla and Corolla S both make 132 HP.
I asked him why that was, since I agree, the S package should be faster as well. He said Toyota feels that more people would be interested in the cosmetic changes only, rather than the engine upgrades. Maybe he's smoking crack, I don't know. I too think that the S should be faster, but considering how much more it already costs, do you think it would sell if it was another $2-3K over what it is now? I think it would be a hard sell if it was priced close to a Civic SI.
The only reason I bought the S sedan I have was because it was used and the price was right. Otherwise, I would have considered a base model.
Just my opinion...
CDavis7M
07-05-2009, 02:37 AM
An engine upgrade to an already slow car would be too costly for very little benefit. A suspension upgrade would be cheaper (both parts and meeting federal regulations) but most people would not pay more to a harsher ride. So, it was cosmetic upgrades only.

07-08-2009, 03:39 AM
Dear "S" haters,
If you think the S is not worth it, Here is what it would take to go from a "fully loaded Regular" Yaris to a "fully loaded Yaris S" in my area code:
That means I would need:
Black: A, B, C Pillars, Door Arm Rests, rear arm rests, sun visors, ceiling fabric
UPGRADED INTERIOR FABRIC (Black with shiny silver dots instead of cheesy blue dots)
Leather wrapped steering wheel
ipod kit
BUILT IN TACH (impossible, requires tacky add on)
fog lights
cruise control
blackened a/c control knobs
chrome trim door handles, vents, e-brake
Front, rear ground effects
side skirts
rear spoiler
leather shift knob
Darker silver trim around the A/C controls
And of course, the stick on "S" on the back
If you think you can do all those mods decently for under $2k (including labor or the time and hassle it would take to do it yourself), then I agree, the "S" was not worth it for me!
On a side note though, I think Toyota should go back to calling their top of the line models "Limited Edition", that is a more accurate description of what the car gives you than "S" which conjures up the thought that the car is faster in some way. My car might not be faster than a regular Yaris, but the nicer appointments (particularly in the interior) make it feel a little bit more high quality/luxury.

im getting a complete S interior this weekend :)
you could do all those things you posted for under if not around 2K
nobody is hating on the S, most people on here just would rather mod the car with 2g then spend it on body parts.
I like the S model (08 version, i think the 09 looks like the matrix) but it looks nice, but i would rather pick up the JDM RS kit from Garm for 1k, i think its the best looking kit for the yaris hands down.
everybody envisions what they could do with an extra 2K, some would go your way, others a different way but we still all drive yaris and with an extra 2k you could make the yaris a lot faster
most of the fun I find is working on the yaris, would not be any fun if everything was done for you. Plus I like to tell people all the work I have into my yaris, remember you cant buy respect, you build it :)

I never really understood why someone who didn't automatically agree with whatever someone else said, and love to the same level as that other person loved something, is a "hater."
Nobody here is "hating" on anything, merely saying that with out money, we'd rather do something different. And with the brand of car we enjoy driving, wish other things would be done from the manufacturer.
I'd personally rather spend 2K on things that make my car handle better and go faster, rather than different fabric, more plastic parts, and "dark trim around the ac controls."
Plus, I find it fun to modify the Yaris, not a hassle.

Maybe our Yaris ''S'' Liftbacks could be a collector car???
Maybe we could get a thread for just ''S'' owners???

Awwwww.... that little "s" is so cute!! So just wondering about the muscle cars you have listed??? I sense something, a presence I've not felt since......

The S package for the hatch isn't even available in Washington state unless you special order it, which the dealers here like to charge LOTS extra for. I've only seen one 09-10 S model, and it had out of state plates.

i think a lot of people opted not to get them due to the higher cost for just getting a lip and spoiler kit
if i traded in my yaris for another yaris, i doubt i would get an S
You also get better sport seats/fabric and tach+ leather trimmed wheel and shifter.....
When I was shopping in '08, the only S (sedan) I saw was like $17,800. Blazing blue and it has EVERY option!

if it was BLAZIN BLUE in 2008 that is a RARE collectors car seeing as it wasn't offered on a sedan YET......

as for rare and collectiable...well I had a 1972 yenko vega stinger split bumper gt I picked up in the early 1980s and kept it till 2005...a ultra rare ecomony type car and could only squeeze 3000.00 out of it . I had it for sale for a year.
so while a s yaris may be a odd car on the road 30 years later i see no future demand at all !

or my 1988 T-TOP cars and concepts turbo lightweightweight formula fiero with 40,000 on the clock only got 5000.00 for it and i had it since 1990 and sold it in 2008...a super rare car does not always mean cash !!! asK the gremlin owner LOL !

Bought my black 09 3dr LB S with 11K miles for a great price last year
I had a base red 07 LB before this one ...I hated not having power windows, no tach, no power locks, no ipod interface, unsupportave seats, rear seats that do not fold flat, etc.. Bottom line if you find a S at a good price get it, makes my daily driver much more enjoyable
