Has anyone heard of the window tint law in IL changing? I've heard it from 2 different sources but I would really like to see it in official writing somewhere. I looked it up here http://www.tintcenter.com/laws/IL/ and I tried googling other words and can't find anything. Everything says you still can only tint the back, but I heard you can tint the front sides now.

Thanks so much for taking the time to do that. Looks like you still can't put anything on the front sides if I'm reading right? But I heard it changed just recently, maybe even last week. I'm wondering if web pages just haven't been updated? But thanks so much for showing me this anyway.

I don't think those .gov and tintcenter sites have been update but many people who are into cars that I know have told me the law passed late June that you're allowed to tint to 35%... as the darkest you can go on driver and passenger side windows.
Thanks to the last poster... I think that's the new bill people have been talking about. It states:
Replaces everything after the enacting clause. Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code to provide that a person may drive a motor vehicle with a nonreflective material tinted film that does not allow less than 50% light transmittance upon the side windows immediately adjacent to each side of the driver.
I have 50% on my driver and passenger side... so guess I'm legal now.
But might have to go darker!... 35% all around sounds sweet...

So what I'm seeing is its not technically legal yet, we are waiting for the governer to sign it, but it looks good that its gotten this far.

Ohh.. is he just doing it cheap for you, or anyone? I want mine done in a shop with a lifetime warrenty, but I've heard people pay over $300 and I just literally don't have that. I've also read people have gotten them done for under $100 but I would be worried about that being too cheap and getting bubbles/peeling and no warrenty..

Blah. I keep checking
http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/BillStatus.asp?DocNum=3325&GAID=10&DocTypeID=HB&LegId=46080&SessionID=76&GA=96
And it still says
"6/26/2009 Sent to the Governor"
It's been a month and two weeks!! Is this normal?

I was down in Illinois this past week. Saw on tv that the new Governor was at the
state fair. Maybe he hasn't had time. :iono: Then again, look how long it took to get it
passed through the General Assembly.
Or maybe they sent it to Blagojevich  by mistake.

Update on this. This wasn't passed btw. After 60 days the bill becomes effective into law but on the very last day the governor veto'ed it. I'm not voting for Pat 'fu*ken' Quinn when the next election comes up.

Something was updated.. anyone want to read through it? I'll prob misunderstand the legal mumbo jumbo
http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/BillStatus.asp?DocNum=3325&GAID=10&DocTypeID=HB&LegId=46080&SessionID=76&GA=96
"11/3/2009HousePublic Act . . . . . . . . . 96-0815 (http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/publicacts/fulltext.asp?Name=096-0815)"
edit: Ok, I took the time to not be lazy and looked at it closely and read some of the above links Chris posted and people were cheering its legal now. Now to get mine done, and figure out what to print for proof incase I get pulled over. This is the best site that breaks it down http://www.cartype.com/page.cfm?id=929&alph=all&dec=ALL don't see anyway I could be misunderstanding that!
sweet. looks like TO ME that is says, if you have nothing darker than 35% in the rear, then you can have as dark as 35% on the front sides.
and it says if you have nothing darker than 30% in the rear, then you can have as dark as 50% on the front sides.
been awhile.. but the new law is on Passenger vehicles you can have up to 35% all around and be safe, anything darker than 35% in the rear, NOTHING in front.... for all SUV's or vans that have factory tint you can have only 50% in the front.
Thats the low down on the tint.. have mine tinted already.. and i love it..
