I recently installed some NST shifter cable bushings and I very much like them. I did notice that the shifter felt a bit "gritty" when rowing it around after installed the bushings. My car only has 5000 miles on it, so I figured the grit must be from the shiny NST bushings rubbing against the grit in the bushing carrier.
After spraying some Dupont teflon lube onto and around both bushings I was rewarded with a very nice, smooth shifter action.
So, go out there and lube those shifter cable bushings (if you haven't already)!

I've been saying the same...
Some wd40 brought new life to my SSK / cable bushings combo

Keep in mind that WD40 isn't a true lubricant, it's a water displacer (hence the "wd"). I would put a longer lasting lube in there.

I use a little bit of Tri-Flow. It's pretty Bitchin' stuff that has one of those straw applicators that makes getting the stuff on the the bushings a piece of cake.

WD-40 is a lubricant...it doesn't just displace water. The problem that I have with WD-40 is that it tends to attract dust and dirt. A needle applied teflon lube is a better choice.

I dont have the NST bushing set, but I shot some white lithuim on every joint in my shift linkage when I was trying to kill the squeak, and since then it shift sooooo much smoother with the engine bay NST SSK

It is, but it's not very long lasting at all. And as you mentioned it attracts a lot of crap.

moly-lube or graphite. any oil will attract dirt and cause u serious problems in the future. plus cleaning them is a pain when you grease or oil them up.

I've got the bushing set and didn't lube it up. However, mine feels fine.
