How does this work exactly? do i still need a full axle back exhaust for this or just straight pipe and a fancy tip?

Bolts up to the end of the header then goes all the way back to where an "axle-back" system would start , so yes you still need a "axle-back" of choice .

except for the fact that you're running cat-less and it can smell bad.. i have to say that the nitto mid-pipe is the only thing that really improves the exhaust note on this car. its hard to make a 4cyl 1.5L sound deep without sounding tinny/raspy/ricey.. this is the only thing that does it, and only because it doesn't actually increase the volume at all. it just makes it deeper.

Watch out garm this might be my first purchase ever from microimage  coz i don't think i would want this used for my car and at least i want my mid pipe to be new. I can't wait but i know it will happen prolly int he next 3 weeks or so.

my project list for the next 2 months lol!:

1.) Lowering Springs > (which will be done hopefully by next week and staypuft will make it happen)
2.) Air Intake> still havn't decided yet if im gonna go CAI or just a short ram.
3.) Nitto MId pipe
4.) Axle Back Exhaust
5.) Better Shocks> (hopefully by this time my stock shocks aren't screwd up yet because of lowering.

Open for suggestions :) and I wouldn't mind used stuff on any of these except for my mid pipe. I'm getting my mid pipe from garm fo sho!

I like the drop on the tein s-tech springs that i have on my sedan, i would suggest them. Air intake if you going for a CAI I would stick to the TRD, I had it on my car for 1 year already and no problems and good addition to the car.

yeha i heard s-techs are not bad but i think im gonna try DF 210's since someone is selling to me for 100 shipped just arranging some payment methods with him. as far as intake i dont think ima go CAI annymore something liek the afe's or blitz short ram will be ideal for me for now. Unless i get a good price on a set of used TRD CAI tehn i might jsut give it a try.

I'll try to get a sound clip soon then

I had the AFE intake , which I love hows it looks, but I had a problem with the maf housing , then I change it to AEM CAI and am really happy with the result.

the aem doesn't look as good as the AFE, but it sounds a lot better during wot  ....I believe, the TRD CAI is a rebrand AEM ... I may be wrong tho :respekt:

so there is no cat in the midpipe? does that mean if you do a full exhaust: header, midpipe, and rear section, that you have no cats?

mrbond

^ yup, no cats whatsoever. Not my ideal setup at all - I'd have piping custom made with the stock cat in place.

areithan1980, for the air intake, I'd highly recommend the Fujita F5. I had the AFE short ram and the Blitz short ram intakes before, and the Fujita just works soo much better for me. Btw, where on the north side do you live? Starting at the beginning of September, I'm going to be up by Loyola, so you should hit me up sometime.

FO sho man! i'll try to keep that in mind around september right? got it. i'd look in fujita's i never heard of em. I live by waukegan close to naval base. And i didn't know there's no cat on that nitto mid pipe yayks! Maybe ima hold up on midpipe for now :( until i find more info's. Oh, and one thing too are fujitas oiled or dry?

I'm sorta in the area already - I'm out in Naperville so it's not very far at all. If you need any extra help with your springs and shocks (it's a good idea to do both at the same time, IMO), I'd be glad to help.

That's nice of you man! I'm still waiting on someone to reply to me as far as payment method goes. And, still not sure if my setup will work yet with DF210's as far as rubbing is concern. I got a motegi MR7's 17x7 ET40 with nexen n3000 205/40ZR17. I got a guy that is willing to do my springs in southern hicago he will do it for me for $100 :P I put up a thread for it under wheels, suspension etc. Oh and fujita CAI are they oiled or dry?

mrbond
07-08-2009, 05:32 PM
The wheels won't rub with DFs. I have Blitz Profile 8 wheels 17x7 ET40 with Dunlop 195/40R17 also with DF210s and I have yet to rub. The Fujita has a dry filter, so you only need like a weak soap and water solution to clean it out.
As for installing the springs and shocks, I'd help you out if you needed to do a second installation (assuming you do the springs and shocks separately) for sure.

heck, I'll do it for like $60. It's a lot of fun for me, so I don't really care too much about the money.
But so what are you going to do for the exhaust assembly, if you're not going to get the Nitto? Will you have one custom made with the cat?

areithan1980

i'm not sure at this point as far as exhaust goes. I think i'm gonna have to do axle back for now.

but hey! $60 is not a bad deal  at all! I just need to get my suspensions and springs out of the way first i think then i'll do more research on exhaust. i'm really eyeballing tourinbg medallion right now and the blitz nur spec both axel backs. I don't even know yet if i'm doing the intake first and then exhaust or vice versa.

I recommend checking out either the Fujitsubo Wagolis or the Ask Silent Power Type-S axle-backs. I have the Wagolis and I couldn't be happier. As for the Ask, it sounds beautiful and deep, but I found the Fujitsubo before the Ask. Both sound a bit better than the Medallion, IMO

the maf housing on the afe intake is made by a molded plastic, but with a brass nuts...I tried to secure the bolts for the maf but the brass nut just kept getting loose from the housing and CEL was appeared.... I tried this 2 times and finally got the AEM and just right on the first install.

but the thing is ... Im the only person that had the problem with the AFE:confused:

by the way , good lookin out Kirk ... I wish I have someone to help me out with the yaris items in my area :frown:

Stupid question but will a Nitto Mid Pipe bolt up to the stock axle back?

mrbond
07-10-2009, 01:57 PM
^ yes, since aftermarket axle-backs have to fit the stock "midpipe," the inverse is true.

fortknox82

I was just concerned that the nitto was a larger diameter pipe that would not mate up to the stock axle back. I could care less about the cats and I know by taking them out will make the car more throaty as is and I dont need any fart cans on the back of the car.

have you heard how awful the car sounds with de-cat and the wrong muffler? look up peterpoop's older videos before he fixed his header-back exhaust.

here's my car with catted 2.5", 22" resonator and apexi(the problem) muffler.

sounds like garbage

and this is an otherwise stock yaris with a penguin garage muffler delete

plenty throaty IMO

^ Actually people who have the NITTO midpipe (with or without other exhaust mods) like the sound a lot. That is de-catted. I haven't heard one person call it "awful".

my TRD (newer version) makes me sad. i was going to sell it and go back to stock at one point... but i couldn't part myself with the shiny part sticking out the back... it just looks so nice... but sounds so bad... (but only sometimes...)

i will more than likely do the midpipe and header at some point, and then will make a decision on alternative muffler.

i had intentions of copy-catting the center exit... took me a while before i remembered i have a trailer hitch on my car...
