Where can I buy a new engine?

Hi

I want to replace my stock 1,3 87hp. engine.
Does anybody know where I can get a bigger engine, doesn´t have to be brand new. I know the Toyota Yaris/Vitz in Japan can be bought with a 210hp. engine, but something less is ok.

Any help would be great, as I can´t find a place to buy it.

I have looked a little at the webpage, but it seems like it´s only the 1,5 engine, I would like to get at least the 1,8 engine with about 130hp. Is that avaible from new in the US?

I can´t find one in Denmark, not many T-Sports in Denmark. I can´t find a European webpage that are selling used engines for Toyota, it would probably be a lot cheaper to buy it in Europe.

It´s not cheaper to buy a T-Sport in Denmark, the cheapest one is just over $53.000 plus met. paint and license plates.
I have bought the Sol model which have just a little less equipment than the T-Sport, but only 1,3 engine with 87hp. I bought it two years old for $32.200, price for a new one was $46.500.

So I think it´s still cheaper to buy another engine.

It just seems like used parts are available SOMEWHERE in Europe? Don't they have salvage yards over there?

Hehe... living in the US we separate the fractional portion of a number from the whole portion of the number using a period, not a comma... we use the comma for separating the thousands digit from the less significant digits... at first glance that reads to me as:

I want to replace my stock 1,387hp (one thousand three hundred eighty-seven) engine... DANG that's a powerful stock engine! :-)

You also need to concider that swaping engines is not as simple as it sounds...

If you find a 1.8L engine then you will need the ECU for that engine and might even need the transmission.

The engine mounts will be different, so it will require some custom work to install the larger engine. Al perpherals will change... so you will need the intake and exhaust manifolds and also some custom work to mate the exhaust manifold to your current exhaust...

Also you will probbaly mess up with other car functions that are controlled by the OE ECU such as trac control, ESP, dash warning lights and instrumentation.


In other words... when you are doing a one of a kind (read no Honda swap) you have to be ready to deal with a lot of stuff that you will find in the way.

If you are looking for extra power... have you concidered going the turbo route?

Still will probably have to be all custom made but it should be cheaper and easier than swaping engines.

if it was me... i would rather remove the stock engine and put in a 2zz ge engine from a Celica.... which gives you 142 kw...

Would the Toyota Celica engine fit in the engine room? I thought it was bigger.

I know I have to get another ECU, wiring etc.
I also thought of the turbo and would like to have that, but no one makes a turbo kit for my engine.

A turbo kit would have to be custom made... but it will require LESS amount of custom work than a swap.


In other words, if you are afraid of the custom work that a Turbo kit would require... don't even think about the swap.

It will be more work and will probably end up costing more.


And yes, we've seen a few pitures of 2ZZ engines stuffed on a Yaris. It is larger, you are right. Probably some chassis cutting here and there would be required...

I think you guys seriously underestimate the cost of buy a new car in Denmark. For their total out of pocket you could walk into a US dealership and talk them down to getting 3 cars for that much money.

You gotta keep the allzoner price down somehow.

There's a whole lot of salvage yards and breakers in the UK. I think your best bet is to start there. If you would like to buy straight from Japan, YAM Auto (I think that's the company's name) can import you almost anything you want (cars, parts, used engines, tuner crate engines etc) from Japan straight to Europe.
