One of my few complaints about the Yaris was the poor air conditioning. However something happened last week and now the air coming from the vents must be 10 degrees colder. I am not sure how the problem fixed itself but I am glad it did.

You just have to make sure the temperature dial is all the way "Cold"...

I find to that the rpm has to be up to get the coldest air from the vents. If you are just idling then the ac is a little lack luster.

the rpms have little to do with this , its the air flow across the rad and the condenser that will make it cooler also look here:

+1 , I proved this to myself as well 2 days ago using a digital thermometer. The movement cools the rad's, which in turn allows the A/C to remain cooler.

As for engine RPM, higher RPM only creates more heat inside there, and if you notice immediately after you stop your car, the air gets warmer by about 10degrees its because of that.

i agree that the yaris a/c is weak sauce.. it takes a good 5-8 minutes driving for it to start to get cold in cali weather.

I tried that insulation trick and it didn't help much. I don't blame it though. Not many things that take this desert heat very well. It was 112F here yesterday.

My mistake was forgetting to turn the dial to recirculate cabin air. I left the dial on
outside air for a while and was wondering why it never really got cold.

The AC is get's ice cold on the highway. But yeah, it takes a normal 5+ minutes around town to get really cool. This is perfectly normal in low powered cars and I've been in plenty of higher powered cars that aren't any better either.

Hehe. It was 113F today. Glad I left for work early so I could get parking in the shade.

The AC in my Brother's '05 Corolla and in my Mom's '09 Camry are great. They get ice cold in minutes. Sometimes, it feels like the AC in my Yaris doesn't get cold until I'm parking at work.
