View Full Version : Performance Chips / Voltage Stabilizers

I've been looking at some of the claims these gadgets make and find it hard to believe that I can get 50 HP and 3-5 MPG improvement for less than $60.

There is also a voltage system I was looking at, that says it improves gas mileage by 10%.

So my question is, does anyone have any of these things installed? Are they any good? Do they harm the engine in any way? Any thoughts or links to existing threads (if any) that discuss this, would be appreciated.

voltage system MIGHT do something but those miracle chips are GARBAGE.....

I can’t see how a voltage stabilizer will do much but eat more amps and make more heat under the hood.

**adding**

I get it now. The extra heat under the hood helps out with the fuel mileage, but it also cuts your HP.

These Ebay scientists must be better than the people at Toyota, go figure.

I bought an eBay chip and dissected it for everyone to see what was inside. Thread is on here somewhere.

Don't be, we all want the "free lunch". At least you were smart enough to ask before spending your money.

the voltage system (read: lots of cable) won't do anything you couldn't do with $20 worth in cables yourself.

Just add a 1/0awg cable to all the connections you already have...
1:bat to ground
2: alt to bat

if you upgrade those to wires... and possibly relocate the ground point for the bat to ground you'll seel the same thing... but for less money.

you'll be adding weight tho, I doubt you'd see any improvement... even on a dyno.... but if you run a lot of electronics it'll help reduce strain on your alternator and battery.

I know a former LB owner here lost his LB to his voltage stabilizer.

That it is a truth chip tuning... Forget e-bay it is not good quality...

And now with the "P-Tronic", the additional diesel performance chip for engine tuning : 117bhp and 244Nm

I know a former LB owner here lost his LB to his voltage stabilizer.

I remember that post... but didn't really read it... Unless there are active electronics involved in the voltage stabilizer there is no reason why his toyota would mess up unless it was installed correctly.

I always thought the kits were just a bunch of small cables to increase the quality of grounds.

Yes most diesel engines seem to have a big headroom for this kind of tuning... Friend of mine has a BMW 520d who got his chip-tuned like this and it made a real difference.

But as for us regular gas-burning folks, the options are rather limited :frown:
