View Full Version : Daily Driven Yaris @ 10 PSI

Looks like I get to be the guinea pig. After spending the weekend going over my turbo kit we found a torn coupler connecting the charge pipe to the intercooler. I replaced it and swapped the worm gear clamps out with t-bolt clamps and voila! 10 PSI in second gear at WOT on the stock motor. We will see if it blows up.

Unfortunately I don't have a still camera worth taking pictures with, but the guy going with me to the strip tomorrow has a D200 and is a pro photographer so I'm stoked to see those pictures.
I do have a mini HD camcorder that I will have with me tomorrow and this weekend.

I gotcha Garm.
It wasn't the clamps that caused the problem. There was a gash in the coupler, presumably from a rock. It is the lowest hanging spot on the car, so I probably bottomed out at some point. I replaced it with something a little more durable.

The funny thing is even if it doesn't, the Yaris still won't "handle" this much boost, because most of you have this preset preminition that it won't. Unfortunately, that is what Yarisworld is all about. Assumption.
+100 points to the first person to keep an open mind.

Keep in mind I saw a Yaris that ran this kit for 2 years, and yes, it STILL ran.
My theory is the clutch will go first. Mine is starting to go but starting and gone are two different things. It isn't slipping yet.

I think the stock forged rods will hold up fine, oh yeah I have been running around for over a year boosted too without problems, DETONATION is what has killed engines! get fuel management.

Glad you're running strong with no boost leaks anymore . You should really invest in the snow performance boost cooler kit . Its a water/meth injection that pretty much eliminates all chances of detonation and lowers cylinder temps big time . http://www.snowperformance.net/product.php?pk=8
I bought this same kit from summitracing for like 300 I think

If it isn't slipping, how do you know it's starting to go? :iono:

It isn't slipping. I slipped. I meant synchros.

10 psi? On what turbo?
PSI ratings are meaningless without referencing the turbo producing it.

hahaha Tamago i was about to say holy S someone asked the right question for once, but Chino i do ask you that multple times though... You're definately going to run out of turbo if you upgrade for more boost. Time for a bigger one! :)

isnt greddy blue what the dudes overseas are running? they all seem to be boosting fine over there. how frustrating

My guess is when I take the car to MWR in October, they're going to be able to tune the car and it will blow the whole "e-manage blue won't work" theory out of the water. They have no doubt they can do it.
Now, it'll always have a CEL, and you won't get rid of that without something a little more high-octane than a blue from what I understand, but I'm a tuning noob so take everything I say with a grain of salt.

Its the now-defunct ZPI kit. Search ZPI Yaris on YouTube and you'll find a video of the dyno runs.

a couple dollars spent at radio shack on the correct resistors will heal those missfire problems.. the tC guys do it on the AEM FIC

a 14b turbo on 10 psi is nothing. I ran a completely stock motor ls integra with a t3t4 57 trim turbinetics turbo on 15 psi and beat the hell out of it and dd'd it for more than 2.5 year then sold it and new owner still drives it. The key it tuning both ignition and fuel.
When the tuner is tuning the car there should be almost no timing advance. let the turbo make the power. It make the car very reliable incase of high egt's or a bad batch of gas.
about water meth. I ran a snow proformance kit on a way over boosted (21 psi) stock fuel'd 2jzgte motor. water cools the intake charge, acts as a steam cleaner for the internals and the meth combine with 93 octane makes 110 plus octane. its great stuff.
IM VERY SUPRISED the supercharger people hear dont run water meth and get a re tune. They will have huge hp gains.

3 of them are running water/meth. it's the tuning part that presents problems, because it's expensive.
