Oh baby this thing looks hot in my engine bay

http://www.etimago.com/yaris/_MG_0646.jpg

And the sound now... if you didn't know you'd think there was a turbo in there somewhere

And here's a little bit of Cusco lovin' with an oil catch tank, supposed to help the engine run cleaner... anyone have experience with this?

Nice additions.. where does the CAI end up?

eTiMaGo
10-03-2006, 10:33 AM
just there... if you look at the piece of metal right in front, there is a hole there, so it gets pretty fresh air through the grille, and with a much lower risk of getting water splashing in.

Nice.

How much did it cost?Did you see any difference?

roughly US$130?

Engine's actually smoother, with the stock intake it sometimes seems to choke up when shifting gears, now it's a lot better... and it just sounds wicked

Τhe blue tube is for what?Oil steam?

the single blue tube? to be entirely honest I didn't completely understand the explanation, something to do about fuel injection, it connects to this thing:

just need to replace those screw down hose clamps on the intake, and maybe color matched/constrasing zip ties :)

well I managed to understand a bit more information about it, it's some kind of electric air pump to feed more air into the intake. I'm very confused as to its function, but most yaris owners here seem to swear by it. It's not one of those gimmicky air twirlers or fuel atomizers or whatnot, at least!

I am curious, your car has stuff into it that you have paid for them and u don't know what they do?

Dont take any offence mate, just curious.

Its just looks like a breather...but instead of sitting on the valve cover, its just got a tube and been relocated over to the shock tower

Example of one on the valve cover:

Hahaha I know what you mean, the problem is, I can speak decent Thai, but not so well when it comes to technical things, even with a friend to help me, so I have to rely on the little I understand and other peoples' recommendations and my knowledge of an engine's working.

And I think hosmer has hit the nail right on the head, it would most certainly be a breather (CAI breather?)

ItsMyDaily, there is a bit of power improvement, but most importantly the engine is a lot smoother. It's almost impossible to stall (I could go from a standing start in 3rd gear), and whereas the engine would sometimes shudder a bit when changing gears, now it's just smooth as silk.

 sounds good. Your engine bay looks great, now all you have to do is remove tht plastic cover over the valve cover and paint the valve cover red!:headbang:

I'm very tempted to do so, but with the plastic injectors and all other stuff on top of the engine block, it does not look so nice... So maybe I'll change the cover to a carbon fibre one and a red aluminium oil cap, that would also look pimp!

a GB for the intake would be great since i'm having a hard time to find a place here in canada to get them.

is it an actuall intake, or jsut a filter box, and some hoses?

eTiMaGo
10-15-2006, 04:45 AM
It's basically just the filter cylinder, and the workshop here added the tubing.

I'm still quite sure that the TRD or AEM intakes would give much better results, horsepower-wise.

Just a little update, I removed the angled horn-looking thing in the front of the intake some time ago, to try and free up the airflow. Power wise, it feels the same, but there's a nice extra roar when the pedal hits the metal

ah it's not that great, 180 degree bends are not exactly good for air flow!

I am planning on putting in an oil catch tank and was looking at the Cusco one as well. For those times when you are running your car hard and doing alot of fast hard turns like when you are in the solo slalom event. It catches the oil and sludge that comes out of your intake and maintains the airflow from getting gunged up. This is all I really know, but I think it will help in the long run if you are doing performance driving at the weekend track and keep the engine internals clean.

Was there any reason you had it installed?

:w00t: I agree with you! Sound good when you shift up or kick down for accle! Torque coming and rpm running faster than factory filter and intake box.

Very nice simota air intake

Do you got any idea for this model ?

Is your engine oil get dark easier?

and yr cusco oil tank is help to make your engine room clean is that right?

I've got my oil catch tank installed and wanted to find out about the tubing on your car.
The blue tubing from your catch tank that attached to the top right hand side of the head cover. Is this tubing really hard and doesn't soften with the heat the engine and header makes? I've had two types installed already, one harder than the other, but even the harder one still collapses like a vacuum is sucking it shut. If you can tell me what kind of tubing you have. That'd be greatly appreciated.

What all did you buy to have that set up? obviously more than the filter right?

Looks good! I like that intake design!
An oil catch can is usually to go between the valve cover and intake pipe or PCV valve and intake pipe. It's function is to remove oil and or oil vapor from positive air coming from the valve cover and oil vapor induction in the intake. Usually you don't install these unless you have blow by. I don't have blow by on my engine but I wish to have clean intake. Oil vapor can lower fuel octane significantly.

You can fabricate one for under 20 dollars.
