Thought I'd check up what the Philippines has in terms of Toyota's that either the US doesn't have, or is a bit different. Here they are:

On another note, NUMMI, the Toyota manufacturing plant here in NorCal, may be closing.

GM is leaving NUMMI. Toyota may go it alone. Nobody is yet sure.

I doubt the US would allow it for commercial uses either (the Hiace) since they use those Dodge fans for the airport now a days. However, the Innova and the Avanza may be good choices for florists and such that need to haul stuff around. I know Ford is making a model specifically for those people. I forgot what it's called tho.

The U.S had the first gen (U.S.Version) of the previa, then they traded off to the sienna name and such.....

We got the Auris/ Corolla hatchback if you like.

well for some of those, the u.s. definitely has some extremely close relatives. some are as close to simple rebadge and lighting changes.

http://www.toyota.com.ph/Images/prado_main_tcm245-92685.jpg^change the front-end a little, add some lexus badges, and you've got a gx470.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3013/2796955850_86ec7e6d5d_m.jpg^change front bumper, headlightslights, rear bumper, tails, and you've got a camry. interior and everything between the a and c pillars are carbon copies of the camry xle w/ diferent head units. interesting note- the jdm camry is a lot closer to the usdm camry. same bumpers and lights. i find it an amazing feat- how toyota positions the "camry" nameplate at so many different levels to suit so many countries. it is safe to say that the u.s. has the "poorest" camry. considering philippine peso conversion rate, their baller camry costs upwards of $50,000.

and just to confirm bredayaris's post:
http://www.autoweek.nl/images/800/4/9102a3d444622b0585120dc20ef5eeb4.jpg^scion indeed rebrands the urban cruiser as a scion xd in the states with slightly different trim.

as for the avensis=venza, that is wrong. they share nothing aside from shape, and are two completely different derivatives of their original platform. the avensis is a much lower vehicle (even in estate configuration as posted), and is a derivative of the caldina platform, not the camry platform that the venza is derived from. in fact, to get a general idea of the shape, think of a stretched scion tC (hence the tC's chopped rear end). the tC and avensis share chassis. it's like how some people say that the hilux and taco are relatives, when in reality, they only share engines. two unrelated truck platforms that split up in the late 80's.

The Venza is a totally different car.

The Avensis has a different design, no V6, there's a sedan and stationwagon, petrol and diesel engines etc.

i still love the fact that the taxi's that i saw in the philippines were mainly either a yaris sedan or a corolla ha

Yeah, most car companies just change out the headlights and the taillights and call it a new model. Take, for example, Honda. The Civic is the same thing as the Acura EL. hahaha.

The Urban Cruiser is awd unlike our xD's.

Ah, the Caldina. I liked using that and the Stagea in Gran Turismo. LOL.

what exactly is netz to toyota?

Kioshi
07-26-2009, 12:29 AM
Its like how Scion is the fashionable side of Toyota cars..in that same sense (according to the commercials i saw in Japan), Netz is fashionable cars from Toyota.... ie. Vitz, Rav 4, etc...for some reason the Belta is labeled as a regular Toyota there..lol

Avanza is very popular in my country. It has 1.3l vvti engine RWD 90hp(K3-VE engine)
or
1.5l vvti RWD 106hp
there are three trim levels here: E(base models),G(upper),and S(luxury trim). They're lack of safety features, only the S trim that comes with an ABS(no models are equipped with an airbag) *Maybe that's the reason why toyota didn't take avanza to U.S.

Innova also popular here. In 2004,toyota launched innova(medium sized 7 seater MPV),or well known here as "kijang"(deer) innova.It has 2.0 1TR-FE vvti 136hp or 2.5 2KD-FTV diesel D4-D 100 hp engines.
Basically, there are only three trims here. But,as goes with customers demand, the Toyota Astra Motors(Sole agent of Toyota in Indonesia)offers plenty of option.
Trim levels are:
E(basic)

G(Grand):
G Luxury (with 2nd row captain seat)
G Cruiser (with striping and "cruiser" embossed logo on grill)
G (non captain seat)
V(Extra)
V Limited 2.7 vvti engine
V Luxury Captain Seat
V Luxury
V equipped with climate control air conditioner,MID,"optitron" combination meters and ABS.No airbag except for V Limited 2.7l

The predecessor to the outgone Corolla hatch is called the Auris and I think it looks great... in a bulky Toyota-ish kind of way.

Here in the U.S. there's a well known narcotic pain medicine named Avinza. That'd cause confusion.
