I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section, I don't know what to class this under.. it's more like a general inquiry. Anyway, when I put my car into neutral, the rpms drop LOW. Like, 600 low. Is that normal for an '06 Yaris?

That's normal for any car

Yup, it's called "idle".

From the 2007 Engine Mechanical Repair Manual
(5) Inspect the engine idling speed.
Idling speed:
550 to 650 rpm for manual transaxle
650 to 750 rpm for automatic transaxle
NOTICE:
• Turn all the electrical systems and the A/C off.
• Inspect the idling speed with the cooling fan off.
• When checking the idling speed, shift the transmission to either the neutral position or the parking position.

The idle should never change on any car controlled by the computer. The computer has a set idle that is programmed in and can only be changed by engine diag software through a computer. If your idle is to high or low then theres something wrong with a sensor such as the TPS or MAS.

The ECU actually learns how the engine runs best as it gets a bit of mileage and running time on it. Mine started out idling around 700, and now settles in a hair over 600.

On this low idle situation, does your engine feel like wobbling or vibrating not too much though but there is a vibration compared to 800-900rpm which is smooth?

Wow.. hehe thread resurrection! So after driving two years since learning manual (I was new to it when I got the car) RPMs have remained at 600 give or take.

Mine is also about 600 at Idle and too low in my opinion. Most manual tranny cars should have an idle of 800-900 rpm. Does anybody know of how to increase the idle rpm without having to visit the dealer and their expensive fancy Computers.. ???

that is total bs. I know you are long gone, but for anyone still reading, many cars idles are very much mechanical, not computer controlled. Not sure if the stock Yaris is mechanical or not. I'd love to know though.

If it is mechanical you could set it higher. If not you cannot. The Yaris comes from the factory to save as much gas as possible. An extremely low idle helps.
