Once I am through with the suspension I would like to install an LSD, has anyone tried it yet and what are your veiws? is it worth it? what is wet/snow driving like, any gas milage changes?

I know caliyaris has a KAAZ on his car. He also carry them on his store.

Do you track your car? We have a bunch of memebers tracking/autoxing with very good results all with the OE open diff.

Only after force induction could I justify the cost of a LSD.

thats what I was thinking too. I am hoping to auto x as often as possible. My goal is to be able to overtake the minicoopers lol.

I've got the TRD helical limited slip in my car, and it makes a huge difference. Definitely worth the money. Car hooks up much better exiting corners, no more squealing the tires all the time. I plan on tracking it again sometime before the summer is through, that's when I'll get an even better impression of it. I haven't driven with it in snow yet but being in Edmonton, I'll be getting more then most of you guys this winter. But yeah, I haven't noticed any mileage difference at all.

Personally, I think people should be doing this *before* anything else. I've only done a modest amount of work to this car (PRM intake, 23mm rear sway, short shifter/bushings) and the limited slip was by far the most worthwhile, it totally transforms how the car behaves. Pair it up with some good rubber and it's just sick. Hate to sound cliche but this should have been an option for the car. (although, ironically, when getting a quote for the work, the toyota dealer had never even heard of it, lol....needless to say, i didn't go through them)

How much did it run you installed? Ive never had a car without a LSD (SpecV,WRX) so I naturally feel like the car needs it you know lol.

I bought the LSD from a member on here (kngrsll) for $600, it was used but just barely by the looks of it. Then had a member locally who is a mechanic (06vitzRS) do the install at his shop for me at half the dealership cost, plus he used quality fluid afterwards(Redline MT-90).

The dealerships quoted me $770CDN just for them to crack open the transmission. For the whole job I got numbers anywhere from 1200-1600 bucks, which is robbery. Like I said, they didn't even know a LSD existed for the Yaris, so my faith in their ability to install the part without bending me over kinda went down the tubes. From what 06VitzRS told me it's a pretty straightforward deal. He'd never done it before but I sure as hell trusted him a bit more to do it right. And so far it's been great so yeah, I saved myself a pile of cash and put some money in a members pocket, win/win

You may have a different experience/relationship with your local dealerships, but I can't stand the ones here.

expect about .5seconds faster on most autocross courses with an LSD. yes, worth every penny. it'll make you faster than a supercharger in most cases.

god, i wish i saved and installed that thing :( i know its going to be so worth it

but they pop up on ebay all the time it seems bc it can fit in alot of cars (MKI MR2).

I know it was the best modification i did to my 240sx, S15 helical diff.

i installed lsd in my old 240sx (kouki 180sx vlsd) and i made a HELL of a difference driving in snow and rain, here in CT, where we get 1-3 big snow storms/winter. I will get one for the yaris, but kinda tough to find a reliable garage taht doesnt just outright rape in my area...

When I asked the same question here I was told LSD on FWD hurts traction in the snow.

When I asked the same question here I was told LSD on FWD hurts traction in the snow.

i could see it causing the car to become more lively laterally, as in sliding from side to side (or more likely just one side...) in low traction if driven with a heavy throttle, but with a gentle toe more traction is always good in snow. not that i've ever driven anything with LSD FWD...

My RWD LSD truck is awesome in the snow, but i've heard its not to great with FWD. I was alll set to spend $1500 on an install but decided against it.
