So I get back to my car in this parking lot in which all visitors have to sign in, and all tenants have to pay per month, and yet after just 1 night, someone stole the bumper protector off the back of my car.

I was in an apartment complex in Guttenburg, NJ. Can't wait to find out who did it in that building... can't be too hard to find probably the only other Yaris in there.

Edit:
How much is this thing anyway?

That really sucks. So much for security. No cameras?

$46 from TRDSparks ?? One source, anyway.

Yeah, any security cameras? hahaha, looking for a sedan with a bumper guard that looks "off" will be easy.

How racist of them. Couldn't they have taken one off a Ford van or something?

aww.. that sucks big time!

the person who did it, probably did it because your car is nicer than his.. or just for the heck of it.

That the craziest thing I've heard of getting stolen off a car before. Some one must have really liked that step guard a lot to rip it off like they did. Maybe it was an angry Fit owner disgruntled at the fact that yarises are way cooler.

Who knows, but I have not received any news or calls back.

Whatever, at this point, I will search for the Toyota in that parking lot myself when I go there next.

I was a victim of hail Sunday anyway, and my insurance is going to pay for fixing everything and repainting the whole car. So for now its good that protector was off, but I would have given it away for me(I have no job just yet).

Sorry to see that happen. How much damage did they do to the car getting the rear bumper protector off?

Lafiro

They did not estimate it because they said the hail damaged the car all over, they would have to repaint it all. So I would have just included the bumper.

But this is getting me mad. The damage before my deductable came out to $2053 or so.

He printed a check out immediately, not adding my rear window, not giving a shit to ask anything, my dad is mad, and told me not to cash the check.

Toyota said its around $5,000 to fix it all.

Can you believe AllState's "Pro Shop" was right across the street, and the owner was there looking at my car telling the allstate claim adjuster what to add and what to do. And insisted that I did not need everything fixed, and that they would just refinish the dents, and not get any new parts like no new hood.

Last thing I want it for this claims adjuster to be getting a cut each time he gives the job away to this guy across the street.

I mean he put no new parts and couldnt explain to me everything, and told me that I would get the rear window replaced because it had chips missing, either from the hail or something else but I was covered.

At the end he told me the guy across the street(once again recommending him for the 15th time), or "whoever else does it", can just bill them the extra, including the window. And out comes a check and he signs it.

I ask him, why is this done so quickly, without me knowing every detail because the amount is so small. He told me that he trusts the guy across the street, and that they know his hourly rates and prices and go by that.

Which makes me feel cheated because he would have to bill allstate for the extra paint/bumper/changing rear glass/tinting...... whatever whatever.

And I never see the check, just the guy makes up the amount and charged MY insurance.

What do I do now?

Im going to call the lady in charge of my claim and really start a fit about this in the morning.

Thanks everyone. (And yes every single part on the car EXCEPT for the doors and side view mirrors has dents. Yes this also means the panel running above the doors front to back which is very strong as well)

They stuck something in there because the paint is coming off (all layers) in a few spots in fine lines(making me think that).

The clear coat is gone on a few parts....

A claims adjuster's job is basicly to give you as little of the insurance comapnies money as possible. Try getting a written estimate from the place you want to do the work for you ( like a dealers body shop) and insist that the insurance company pay that amount (less deductible). Your father is dead right about the check, do not cash it. It would mean that you accept it as payment in full for the damage. Hold on to the check until you get acceptable payment. It means that they have admitted you have at least that much damage and can not drop the value to less.

I called the body shop at toyota, body shop manager.

He yelled at me:

Told me thats now how things work, they won't give you anything else, "I have to call the hotline and someone will come here and so will you to inspect the car, I will fight for the amount and they will pay me for it........" ,

then: "the only reason you want me to write an estimate is for them to try and give you more instead of us, so you wont fix th car and keep the money and that isnt happening, so Im not writing you anything"

I don't like either attitute from this asshole, or the jerk who gave me little from allstate.

What do I do?

Its time for some phone calls.

I'd visit local body shops and ask for quotes, tell them you are shopping around.

i had a honda civic that was hit 7 times during the time i owned it so, i have a little experience with insurance companies...the insurance company will send someone out to do an estimate and instead of having him give u the check, you should have had them send it to a body shop you trust and plan to have the car fixed at...it's true--many people keep the money and never get their car fixed so, the initial estimate is what it is...often times the full extent of the damage cannot be seen until parts start getting pulled off so, the insurance adjuster provides his initial estimate of what he can see and the body shop goes to work...if they in fact need more money for repairs, whether it be for new parts or more hours on body work, they file what are called 'supplements' with your insurance company for the additional costs...little battles ensue between the body shop and insurance company regarding the supplement amounts but, at the end of the day they work it out...you just need to find a shop that u trust to get the job done right, give them the check and let them go to bat for u...although the toyota guy u talked to sounded like a bit of a dick, he is correct in saying that if supplements are needed, they file them with the insurance company and work it all out...if u express to your trusted body shop that u want certain parts replaced with oem parts and won't settle for repair or non oem parts, they'll go to war for u unless your policy dictates the use of non oem parts up to certain amounts...

that's my 2 cents, take it for what it's worth!

I will be going to the Toyota body shop cause atleast he is honest and a few of his coworkers and a friend of mine there agreed on what had to be changed.

So I told him I need the rear window replaced with the defogger and FM antenna. Has chips missing and lines cracked anyway which is why my defogger isnt working well and why my FM is messed up/gets interterence from the defogger being on.

Other then that Its all new OEM parts to what I know off.

Monday I drop my car off, and I will be without a ride for a week.

Oh well. No work, no car, no GF for a week. Lets see what happens... lol

They stole the bumper protector?!! That's retarded!!!

That's why I don't have nice rims on my cars. I know they'll be gone minutes after I park my car and walk away from it.

Sorry to hear that.

My old car was vandalized last year + they stole the radio (wasn't even a good one!) but Allstate cut me a small check after they inspected the car to help pay for some of the repairs. Every day on my way to work I see cars that have been broken into over night.

Good luck
