After leaving work yesterday with my colleague who I give a lift daily, we were walking up the hill to my car when we both said at the same time, "Is the back door open?". As we get closer, sure enough it is. Also with the little tear-drop window smashed. I instantly hoped for a baseball from the neighboring ball field but as we looked closer, you could see the screwdriver marks in the rubber window surrounding where they tried to pry the window out prior to breaking it. My sub woofer and amp were taken out of the trunk. Nothing else was touched. They did go through my compartments but they didn't take anything as there was nothing of value.

They were nice enough to properly remove the wiring to the amplifier instead of just ripping it out so those don't appear to be damaged.

$86 taxes in, I have a new window and rubber seal on order; should be in on Friday. The colleague that was with me is going to install it for me for free. The major expense will be to replace the sub and amp (and of course, investing in an alarm system). Unfortunately, my insurance has $1000 deductible so it's all coming out of my pocket.

On a positive thought, nothing inside was damaged except a scratch on the back seat from a piece of glass they must have stepped on.

It was sad listening to the stereo on my way home...:brokenheart:

I can only hope that if it ever happens again, I'll catch the person in the act. Legs would be broken for sure; no questions asked.

I'm assuming you called the police. Did they try to take prints off the the car?

I didn't touch the car until the lady in dispatch on the phone told me I could. Get this; if you walk out to your car and see a small dent that someone hit your car and didn't leave a note, they'll send an officer to check it out. If someone smashes your window and steals expensive items, they don't. "Serve and Protect"... mhmm.
