August 2009 - DFW Yaris Yak

Howdy folks,

August is just around the corner and it's time to start figuring out what's happening for the month and where we could meet up for another Yaris Yak. If anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to reply to this message or to PM me with the info to get it listed.

I don't see any holidays for the month of August on my calendar so it's all up for grabs. I've listed a few events that are happening around the area and provided links to each event's website or web page.

If you'd like to host a Yaris Yak, speak up. :) I'm sure we can find a few people to come by and eat all your food, drink all your drinks and cause problems with the local law enforcement agency.

Also, please feel free to suggest a drive-in diner in your area for us to meet at. Keller's has a couple of good locations in Dallas where we've been to before. I love the drive-in experience for a Yaris Yak since it's a relaxed way to hang out and enjoy some good eats and drinks.

I'll probably do both NST events.

I'm probably going to do the Drag and brag at TMS this Friday and the one on the 7th.

I will be at the autocross on the 23rd too!

I open to going to other thing aroundin the area some of the other car shows sound interseting!! Let me know what you guy and gals think too!!

Well with the way it looks now with on job I'll probably make both. If I do happen to get a job then I'll probably make the one on the 6th and that's it.

I'm not too much into the tuning-thing nor the autocross-thing...tends to be a centerpiece of most car clubs/groups out there. It bores me, if only because the owner demographic get somehow limited. Just my opinion...I do recognize this is a big hobby for some folks.

I dine w/ my car-crazed fanatic friends at Estella's in Arlington. Great tex-mex, cheap, and if one goes there enough to get to know folks, you are treated like family. We've been know to sit there for three hours...good times. One guy is building a Cobra, one guy is comtemplating his move from his Z4, and I....well, I brag on my Yaris, of course!!!! :biggrin:

Year before last some car-buff friends drove down from Tennessee and Pennsylvania just to see what it was all about. Strangely...and in spite of my warnings...they were not disappointed.

Estella's is at 1224 Arkansas Lane in Arlington. It is not a fancy place at all, but it is the real deal.

As for Estella, well she went on to her eternal reward many years ago. :smile:

Ok so I guess the Aug. YY will be on the 16th at Estella's. I'm not worried about it being fancy we don't really dress up for the meetings anyways. Now if only wildmongoose could show up we could meet a couple new faces and have a decent sized meeting.

Also, I will not be able to make the D&B on the 7th at the track. Money is just too tight this week this close to the beginning of the month. :(

I'm definitely game for meeting at Estella's on the 16th if that's good for everyone else. I think LazerDot posted and said he might be able to make that so why not set that date?

I won't make the D&B tonight. We're having windows installed in the house next week and there's a frantic effort to move half of my mother's knick-knacks into the garage and to our storage warehouse. :(

Hey LazerDot,

I called the service department at Toyota of Plano and they told me that the P0101 code is a "mass airflow circuit malfunction" issue and that it would require some diagnostic work to figure out exactly what that means.

Check the MAF to see if it is loose. Like the screws or pull it out and check the seal around it. How long has it been since you cleaned that filter? Check the other hoses attached to your intake and make sure they are not cracked or disconnected.

Also, you might want to see if a bird built a nest in that hole in your bumper. That might throw off the air flow a little.

I just got a call that I have to pick up some folks from the airport sometime in the afternoon that day. I don't have exact details at the moment...I suppose it'd be safe to say that 5 or 6 pm will work for me. Is that too late?? Estella's closes at 8:30 pm....and Saturday evenings are pretty nice compared to the lunch rush.

One has to watch baseball schedules when coming to Arlington....and now we get to add concert, soccer, (and soon) football to the list of reasons to avoid the area!!!! :thumbup: :thumbdown:

This weekend looks like it might be a bust for me. There's some family stuff that's come up and my ex and I are still trying to work out the details on when this stuff is supposed to happen. As it stands now, I'll be somewhere in or around Anna, Tx at 6pm Sunday evening but I don't have firm plans on that right now.

I'm hoping to work things out so that I can be at Estella's and bring my son along.
