Okay, so I couldn't resist and did a fill up after only 243 miles just to satisfy my curiosity. 6.564 gallons. Not too bad I'd say.

My drive is mostly highway normally but I did do a bit more city driving on the past few days and the AC was on more than I would have liked. Humidity is brutal right now around here so there's really no way around it.

I usually go about 65mph. I'm not sure I could get used to going any slower, but I would like to see that 40mpg mark. Patience, patience...

Poop... I only got 310 on 10 gallons! Mixed driving, 75-80mph on the highway...

I got 36 MPG my first tank. I am hoping to do better on the second. I was use to driving a Prius and the Yaris accelerator is much more sensitive. By using a lighter foot my mileage should increase.

Filled up this mornin (first time with this car):

353.0 miles, 9.96 gallons = 35.44 mpg!! Yay! Beat that Lancer!!

Bit of mixed driving; bout 150-175 miles city, rest highway, average speed of about 75, occassionally 75 when passing.

I am quite pleased, and can't wait to see what I can get once I've mastered driving stick and don't have to rev the engine so high to get going from a stop...

Great job everyone! It does take a while to get used to the gas pedal in first gear. I had plenty of stalls and high revs when I first got my Yaris. I still have a few high rev takeoffs but they are few and far between now. The lighter the touch the higher the mileage you will get.

That certainly is encouraging!

I'm still a lil bummed though. The boyfriend was just telling me what he gets with his VW sportwagen diesel... Going 60, he was getting 41mpg, going 80, he still gets 38... And that's with a good amount of playing with the better torque and fast accellerations....

Well, as much as I love the sportwagen diesel; take a look at what he paid and what you paid, then compute how long it will take him to make up the differnence. I did the math before buying my Yaris and figured it would be almost 8-10 years (depending on how much I drove) before the diesel Jetta would equal the Yaris. And that did not include the increased maintenance costs of the VW (I've owned two Passats for a total of almost 20 years and a quarter of a million miles. They were great cars and I loved them, but they are more expensive to maintain and repair).

With my taller and wider tires, and an auto transmission I am getting over 37 MPG. I usually keep it at 60, and don't run the a/c too much but I did on this last tank and it returned 37.8 MPG (just filled up this morning) so a standard Yaris should be able to see 40 MPG with a little effort.

Cheers! M2

I have touched 38-39 driving like a grandma, once I upped the tire pressure and got a sway bar it was too much fun to drive slow, now usually around 35-36 tops. Thats still terriffic IMO.

I have a 09 automatic sedan. I drove from Portland, OR to Madison, WI as I got a job in the Madison area, with a result of about 35.1 MPG over 2010+ miles. This was mostly driving at 75-90...

It's a little bit hilly on the local roads to work, but I do get about 32.2 MPG even with aggressive driving. Going to try to hypermile it on my latest tank to see how much the difference in MPG is, but might take me a month or so with the amount I drive each week... haha.

That's right in line with what I'm getting... sweet!
