We started this thread in the Great Lakes Board and now we're moving it out here, anyone is welcome to join us.

We are meeting on the 22nd day of the month of August in Dayton Ohio. The current plan is to meet up at the Wright Patterson Air Force Base Museum at approxiamtely 10:00am to 10:30am. We are going on a tour of the museum and afterwards crusing over to Sbarros pizza that is about 12 miles away. Afterwards we're going to look for a parking lot at Wright State University to have a quick photoshoot. We will probably be done around 3:00pm If anyone has any questions just pm me. More people are welcome to join us.

Sounds like a good time. I will be their. FYI, the National Museum of the United States Air Force is the largest aviation museum on the planet. Admission is free and its open everyday except major holidays. Exhibits include every aircraft the airforce has ever used from the Wright "B" flyer to the B-2 Stealth Bomber. We are scheduled to recieve one of the space shuttles after the fleet is retired in 2010. There is a huge gift shop, IMAX theater, and cafeteria (pricey food). If you are a super aviation fanatic, you can research aircraft in the library upstairs by appointment. I have used this service for a scale model aircraft I built. Don't forget to visit the presidential aircraft annex. Several presidential aircraft are on display as well as a walk through tour of the plane that brought JFK's body home from Dallas.

Depending on my work, which I think I'll probably have the day off, I might come on out. I forget how far it is from me since it's been years of going to Dayton/Wright Patterson. I want to say it's some 4-4 1/2 hour drive. How long is the meet expected to last for?

my wife drives the sedan, but i'm pretty sure she's got things going on that day. i should pull her car behind mine just to piss-off the 'you can't tow with the yaris crowd' anyways, i drive the liftback, but have always liked the styling of the sedan(maybe better?) when it's been modded(like yours has!). i'm excited to see your sedan in person - our sedan is stock except for a yakima roof rack and pennzoil platinum motor oil. it might lead to inspiration!

yeah acaully I'm not against 4 doors I kinda like the 5 door, I mite have considered one if it was availble when I got mine. Just my first car was a 2dr hatch..............my project car is a 2dr sedan................so I like smaller models again I not TOTALLY against sedans just something about a sedan just seems too big to me. The S sedan I think is pretty nice looking.

For the most part, from my understanding, there's no way to tune a Yaris with the stock engine management... It learns from all it's sensors after running with the mods on for a little while. It's a good thing with some mods, but a real PITA when it tries to compensate for other mods and "undo" them...

My Mom is considering being my co-driver for the trip. She is worried that I have not fully gotten over the MI I had 17 months ago. Given my allergy to perfumed products, all it takes for me to have to avoid the group is someone wearing too much aftershave.

To the guy with the sedan, stay home. A group photo of nothing but Yaris liftbacks would look wild. (Just kidding, just park a little off to the side. ).

The parking lot at the National museum of the United States Air Force is pretty big. Do you have a certain location in the lot we are going to meet in? May I suggest meeting in the shelter at the South West corner of the Memorial area. Then we could decide where to park all the cars together. I have attached a link to an aerial view of the parking lot.

Right turn Clyde. 2 rights from 1100 Spaatz Rd and you are at this parking lot. ssuming that this address is correct and the USAF lets us drive to that address, and the parking lot is accessable to us civilians, how about using the back of this parking lot for the group meet?

Please reference my location, location, location post. The area you have marked is not a parking lot. The opposite end of the museum has a gazebo type shelter we can use a reference/meeting point.

ellenbetty

I did read all the posts. Rather vague directions from my point of view. I was living in Maryland 18 months ago. I have been to Dayton just once in my life using my navigation system. Nothing in the directions posted stuck in my mind as a usable address that can be fed into a navigation system.

The location marked in the over head photo by the driving direction software is 1100 Spaatz Rd. I do not remember any one giving a different address to enter in to a navigation system to get to the USAF museum. The parking lot I am talking about is 2 right turns from 1100 Spaatz Rd. You need to re-read my post. You can see several vehicles parked at the parking lot, 2 right turns from 1100 Spaatz Rd.

The gazebo type shelter you are taking about I cannot identify from the over head photo. I cannot even guess from satellite photos where this gazebo type shelter is.

Plus I think the idea of trying to find a empty parking lot at Wright State University for the photo op is a bad idea. Too vague a location for any one not living in Dayton to find.

The reason I am suggesting the far end of the third USAF museum parking lot is that the far end of the parking lot is empty in the satellite photos. If empty on Saturday, it would make a good location for the vehicles to park together.

Clearly you do not know how most automobile navigation systems work. You put in country, state, city and street address. You tell the unit which type of road you want to drive, off road, quickest roads, most direct roads, most fuel economical roads, most scenic roads. The unit then figures out which roads to take. I am not using a military grade GPS navigation system. That address would be OK if I was programming a JDAM bomb or a cruise missle.

There may be some high end hiking GPS system that double as a automobile navigation system that accept input on the screen of both GPS grid points and street addressing systems, but I do not think that can be done on most automobile navigation systems.

Well i got 3 a tomtom the one in dash and my cell has GPS as well so about getting lost is not what i am worry about

So what does that have any thing to do with this discussion? My Blackberry also has built in GPS with automotive navigation software. I have a Garmin GPS StreetPilot 7200 with updated maps in my first Yaris. I have a Garmin nuvi 255WT with up to date maps in my second Yaris. I even have a basic Garmin etrex for hiking.

The official address of the National Museum of the United States Air Force is 1100 Spaatz Street, Wright-Patterson AFB OH 45433. Even the Official Web Site for the National Museum of the USAF uses driving directions generated by MapQuest. To quote "The entrance to the museum is on the right." Just as I described in my post. Just as the photograph I posted shows.

Ok Ok peeps lets not get on each other's case(at least before the meet).........I'm planning on using the site's directions and then HOPEFULLY I'll be find this gazebo DESPITE have a MioMap GPS. Way I see it you get there via however then HOPEFULLY someone will be 'round to ask where the gazebo OR be able to see some yarii(the plural of Yaris FYI) around......I mean 'round here you just don't see a big group of yarii........off the dealer's lot. So in conclusion lets just chill ok? ok thank you for your co-opperation

That is just fine with me. I did learn that my Garmin nuvi will accept GPS grid data in the three different formats including the one provided. My Garmin Street Pilot will not accept GPS input. The Garmin StreetPilot came with software that will create driving directions using GPS N HH.MM.SS W HH.MM.SS format and a USB cable to upload driving directions.

How ever the question of where the best place to park is for a group car photo is mute at this point. With my Mom in the hospital with heart problems, I cannot worry her by driving a 6 hour 18 minute round trip by myself, compounded with 4 hours of walking around a flight museum. Plus I would rather be near in case my Mom needs me to bring something to the hospital. Which reminds me, I forgot to take my Mom her hand lotion today, so I will have to take the hand lotion to the hospital tomorrow.

Besides if this Yaris meet is just a bunch of guys :eyebulge: over intake mods, noise making mods and forced induction without catalytic converters, then I am out of place any way.

If you mean that this is to meet up and see each others mods, customization ect. and just basically hang out............then yes that's exactly what's basically gonna go down tomorrow. Fact that's what normally happens with a meet at least all the ones I've been to that's what we've done. I mean if you think of any/all of the sections on this site and put cars/faces to usernames and add real-time talking rather than posting, add a location, date and time put all together and what have you got dun dun dun DONE: a meet.

I mean is all gonna be fun and all but if your gonna be a downer/party pooper then I at least don't want you there, I'm not tryin to start trouble or anything I'm just saying the way things work around here. My case and point out of all of the people that have shown interest in this meet ,asside from Chino, I bet I've been around here the longest since I was here BEFORE the hack/shut down....I think I join in Nov. 2007 a few week before I even picked up my then brand new car. Again not trying to make waves, get cocky or anything but it's the way it is

Here are the coordinates for the Gazebo in the memorial park area. This is a different fomat than the one I listed before. N 39 46.7385 W 84 06.78894
If you search these coords on google maps the sat view will place a green arrow on the Gazebo. The arrow will be in the lower left corner of the sat view, just zoom in on it. Ignore the big red "A" marker, that is for the Air force base. The museum is lower and to the left on the opening view. Looking forward to seeing everyone. If anyone needs a contact cell phone number or needs any assistance please PM me.

Looking at mods is one thing. Breathing fumes from a boosted vehicle without a catalytic converter is some thing entirely different. Suffering from asthma I do not want to get with in a 30 feet of a running vehicle without a catalytic converter. While I would like to test drive in a boosted Yaris with a catalytic converter, (after market large catalytic converters are legal in 49 states), I have zero interest in test driving a boosted Yaris without a catalytic converter. I would also like to test drive a Yaris with enlarged air intake with a enlarged exhaust system with a catalytic converter. Plus I would like to test drive a Yaris with larger the OE tires and larger that OE rims. Looking is less educational than test driving.

Well I would not let someone drive my vehicle without a valid driver's license, proof of comprehensive insurance coverage, and passing a breatherizer test. So I would not blame someone from letting someone they have just met test drive their vehicle. But once you get to know someone, some might agree to permitting a test drive or a ride along.

CtrlAltDefeat, that is a great idea, maye we could move the date up and start planning for an entire weekend of stuff to do in Dayton. I'm just throwing that idea out there for everyone to mull over.

Needed more Sedan showings. That black one is looking good, as all the LBs.
If it were closer than the 4+ hours I would have made it (not that mine is anything to look at yet) Mini Cooper 16's and custom homemade lower grille.

Charles sez:

It was fun going out to the meet even though I'm not a Yaris owner. I think they are cool little cars. Often underestimated and have tons of potential. Everyone there was great. n2scouting did a great job as tour guide. He obviously knows his stuff when it comes to planes and I'm sure everyone learned a few things from him.

It gave me a good chance to break in my new camera as well. It was my first time using a DSLR rather than a DSLR want to be. I think many of the shots came out great. Out of ~550 shots I had maybe 30 that were really blurry. Then I went through an deleted several duplicates. I've never photographed a group of cars before so I wasn't sure what to do beyond what I did.

The full gallery with over 400 shots total:
http://tda.ath.cx/gallery2/main.php/v/OtherCars/yaris/2009-08-22/

Yes, it is slow. I'm using server hardware from 1999 and running through a standard cable connection. But I don't have to deal with anyone else's hosting rules, limitations, or crappy image compression (like photobucket).

Car shots are on pages 12-16
go straight to Page 12 (http://tda.ath.cx/gallery2/main.php/v/OtherCars/yaris/2009-08-22/?g2_page=11)

I'd be up for going to another Yaris meet. This has encouraged me to actually go to a Saturn meet if they ever have one somewhat locally. (I drive a lowered 2000 Saturn SL2)
