View Full Version : Honda Fit owners... Yaris haters

When boredom got the best of me I wandered onto a fit forum. I was a bit disappointed to see that there were probably 10 threads dedicated to hating on the yaris...
Anyone have any idea to why this is? It got to the point on the forum where fit owners were so upset over The yaris being the #1 subcompact in initial quality according to one reviewer ( I don't remeber which) that fit owners passed it off as Toyota paying off the reviewers....
So why all the tension from the Honda guys?
On a side note, I'm really glad that this forum is focused on the yaris and getting the best out of our cars rather than bashing the competitors...

I'm actually on FF.net, mainly to check out the photos, but chime in once-in-a-while. A specific car forum is just that. Specific to its car. There are many members here that'll bash the Fit and say that the Yaris is the best. Both cars are great, and they have their perspective buyers. My family has always been into Toyotas, so for my first car that I'm actually paying for, I decided to stick to Toyotas. hahaha.
Don't let the bashing get to you.

I made the thread out of pure curiosity. I honestly have no intentions on creating a debate or argument.
After all I do like the fit...
If the thread is inappropriate to you guys I have no problem with it being removed. The last thing I wanna do is step on any toes here.

Exactly what a Fit owner would say if they visited Yarisworld and searched for threads containing the Fit.
Forums based on certain models are infamous for being completely biased to that model no matter how unfair or unrealistic they are to other models.

Forums based on certain models are infamous for being completely biased to that model no matter how unfair or unrealistic they are to other models.Probably very true. I could bash if I wanted to (trust me on this), but the reality of it all is that there are just strong preferences I have that make the Yaris the best fit for me (did I just say that??). Other folks like certain other things in their cars...that is there right.

Hmmm... no, I think we do a fair amount of bashing here too :biggrin:
The Honda FIT is supposed to be slightly superior. I drove it and I loved it. Noticeable difference for me (on a manual transmission fit sport) were : acceleration (much better on the FIT) and intuitive shifting gears (not so on my manual Yaris). The interior is slightly more sophisticated overall. I'm comparing a 2007 Yaris and a 2007 FIT actually.
I still went with the Yaris because I think it's a better value in terms of quality/price ratio. I still think our Yaris is slightly underpowered to be the perfect car but that's why we get the great gas mileage.
I was never in love with the interior of the FIT (or the exterior for that matter) which reminded me of a mini-bus / family car. I just wanted a car for a single person with room to put stuff in the back and give a ride to a couple of friends now and then. The Yaris is perfect and fits most of my needs, so I left the Honda on the lot even though I loved the driving experience, and pocketed the diffence
Don't worry about it and let them rant. They paid more money for their wheels so they're allowed to rant. Don't sweat it. :headbang:
PS. I've owned Hondas all my life and I love them. Toyotas are equally good IMO. But if Honda had continued making Civic hatchbacks and cars like the CRX, I would have continued buying them but they didn't, and Honda didn't come up with an entry level car like the Yaris for the US market, so Toyota got all the young people buying their first car, all the people caring about gas economy, affordability and quality. This is my first Toyota. I also love the Toyota Matrix and I would love a Tacoma some day. No hate for either brand from me.

PS> I love the FIT too. Actually, to be honest, I love CARS. I don't know anything about what's going on under the hood, but I love driving. So I like many cars, including Hondas and all kinds of other cars. If that makes me a bad Yaris forum member, so be it

that rear storage really only hold the car's manual or a first aid kit. and the steering wheel mounted controls are only for the navi version which is $1800 more than the sport. (comes with a navi w/o bt and sat radio and vsa... thats it)

I find this so funny, it reminds me of all my friends(all own honda civics). They all gave me crap for buying a yaris and not a fit. They even hated when I had a 350z. I think it's just the love of a honda. I personally love honda but find everything overpriced for what I want out of a car. I would choose the 4dr fit over the 4dr yaris any day of the week for looks but I think the 3dr or the sedan look better imo. Again stating it's all based on opinion. I even drove an 05 si hatch and hated how it felt compared to the yaris.
I feel the fit finds a special place in my heart and should with every mico car lover out there. Same goes for the yaris, and honestly the fit has more to offer in luxary than the yaris does. Unless you were one of the lucky few who got a yaris with an auto package and especially with an s version. You would think the yaris would come standard with auto windows and locks and a tach, rofl.

Moderation plays a part, and generally I think as a forum we lean towards acceptance of the virtues of all subcompacts, acknowledging that we chose the Yaris for certain reasons, but respect others' choices...
I don't pay attention to other forums' opinions about the Yaris, or other drivers whom will give a smirk at the sight of my modded Yaris; I can't blame them for it, and I bet if we had a conversation about it they might become enlightened...
If I could, I'd have a subcompact garage, with a Yaris, a Fit, a 1st Gen xB, a Cube, and maybe even a Fiesta...
Cheers

I want so much to like the Fit... Good reviews, and better standard features... But all I can see is minivan. The windshield seems too be at an awkward angle, the back end is flat, the nose is so long, and the body work is all flat... It just isn't a good looking car to me. Sometimes after I get out of my Yaris, I find myself looking back at it, admiring how pretty it is... I'm not trying to bash Fit owners in any way, but I just don't see how they can admire it so much...

Yeah, a slightly sporty subcompact that looks like a mini-van, gets fewer MPG and costs more. Where does that line start?
If I was going to overpay for a subcompact, I'd consider a mini cooper. And then I would be dreaming about a Boxter. Then I'd come back down to earth and start considering a Solstice (man you can find some deals on those these days). Then I'd realize that I have more cargo capacity on my Harley (with two passengers), and I'd go right back to the Yaris :)

It has to do with self-identity. Immature lemmings who use material possessions to establish their sense of identity are almost always driven to feel harsh animosity toward any strong opposing presence that seems in some way undermine that sense of identity.

I have definite reasons why I did not want a Fit, and definite reason why I chose a Yaris. Now, how to talk about those??? Not sure it is even possible w/o coming off as a hater, even it my intentions are otherwise. As soon as you start down that road, as soon as distinctions start getting made, someone somewhere is going to be offended and (generally) the whole thing unravels from there. Now, there are certainly diplomatic terms and non-diplomatic terms, true, but some will appreciate these and some will not. It's too bad really, as the distinctions that guide our choices are very real and potentially useful for future owners.
I wanted a two-door hatch and like Yaris styling and manuverability (small turning radius).

I've owned Toys and Hondas in equal number, and wouldn't mind either. If the Yaris hadn't been available, I would have bought a 2nd-hand Honda of some sort.

a quick note on the nose, that is a usdm fit. NA wouldn't pass the jdm due to its very small nose wouldn't pass crash tests. they ended up elongating from the base of the windshield to the nose (not the windshield itself, honda made it that funny 'long' angle to make the a pillar windows bigger) and it sucks bc jdm headlights, hoods and body kits won't fit udsm ones:iono:

Since my original purchase decision was between the Fit and the Yaris, and in the end just came down to price, I'm a big fan of both.
I hang around Fit Freak as much as I do here, and really there's only a few comments thrown in here or there about how ridiculous it is (in referring to the Yaris) to spend money on an "economy car".
It's really just the same stuff you hear from the general populace, so you should be used to it if you're modifying your Yaris. :iono:
I don't get it because small cars need to stick together because a great percent of the car crowd don't see the appeal or the potential in our cars. So I extend this open invitation to current and future Fit owners:

I love just about anything with four wheels, especially the small cars (as you well know). I will, however, never understand the closed mindedness of some people with regards to other cars. I realize a lot of people are loyal to their respective brands, but I don't get why people demonize the owners of those cars, or the cars themselves. Granted, there are certain makes and models that I would not buy, but I understand some cars are not for all people. Yes, certain forums have more members that are a bit, how shall we say, "abrasive," but you've got to ignore those folks; at least that's what I do.
I wish that some people had a bit more respect, but that goes for just about everything, not just car forums.
However, with cars and forums, we're all auto enthusiasts. No matter if it's a V-8 or a four cylinder; an import or domestic; Honda or Toyota—we all love cars.

who builds a small hatch that has a rear folding seat that doesnt leave an even remotely flat loading area. defeats one of the big benefits of a hatch. nobody would build such a hatch. oh wait, nissan did. i wont even get into the real world mileage of the versa.
and i wish everyone would understand...if the yaris had a 6th gear, it wouldnt have much lower rpm's on the hwy. all the other gears would just be closer together. the versa 6 speed is at just over 3000 rpm's at 70 mph, about the same as the yaris in 5th gear.

One, the Versa is built by Nissan. Not a horrible car company, but not the name Toyota or Honda, which both have MANY vehicles and engines that go over 300K miles average. Two, how much time did Nissan put into researching their car? Toyota and Honda both put close to 4 years each. Research pays off in the end, trust me. Heck, don't trust me, but go and do your own research. Three, No matter what you drive, if you are not happy in it, it doesn't matter what the brand or model it is. Be HAPPY and CONFIDENT in what you drive and the rest will come.

and i wish everyone would understand...if the yaris had a 6th gear, it wouldnt have much lower rpm's on the hwy. all the other gears would just be closer together. the versa 6 speed is at just over 3000 rpm's at 70 mph, about the same as the yaris in 5th gear.
While that may be what they do with the Versa, a nice tall 6th gear to lower my highway RPMs is exactly what would make the Yaris perfect in my eyes. That and a standard RPM gauge for MTs. And a 1.0 litre or diesel option.
A wish list is a wish list.

I own both a Fit Sport and a Yaris RS Hatchback and I have to say I am glad my Wife loves the Honda because I really LOVE my Yaris and am so not looking to anything else for quite some time.
I think the Fit folk just have Yaris envy.
Cheers.

The Mugen rear under spoiler looks really nice on the new Fit.

I got my Yaris because it got a couple more MPG than the Fit. Plus the three extra storage areas in the dash are a nice touch that the Fit could not match. Saving money is always fun too. If I had kids I would have picked the Fit over the Yaris 3 door liftback. Now that Toyota has corrected that problem, it's Yaris all the way.

The fit is a nice car im not going to lie. It came with standard front and side airbag from what i remembered. It also came standard with a cd player and cruise control. The problem with the fit is that too many people have the fit where i live and its not as sexy as my 3 dr yaris.

Sorry for bumping a month old thread, but I'm seriously suffering from Fit envy.
Went to a Honda dealer yesterday (my bro. is looking for a new car) and got a chance to sit in a white Fit Sport w/ all options including the Mugen body kit w/ matching Mugen dual exhaust. The interior is so nice and much more refined compared to the Yaris LB interior. The steering wheel is awesome, especially with all the audio and bluetooth controls and steering column / wheel mounted paddle shifters. With the Yaris, I absolutely have to have a steering wheel cover on, but with the Fit I wouldn't need one. Yes, it had a $22k sticker price, but I would have gladly paid that for it had I been looking for a new car.

I have parked beside Fits and looked at them side by side with the Yaris. Theyare nice, but no nicer. I certainly would not drop 22 grand on a fit when a Yaris can be had for under 12K.

I test drove a Fit. Really didn't like the thing... Yeah sure all the fancy gadgets and electronics on the interior are nice to have... But is it something you NEED? Probably not. We've been getting along fine without that stuff for how many years now? I think we'll manage to survive without it.
Besides, if I'm gonna drop some $22k on a car, I'll be damned sure I'm getting a TDI or other diesel car instead of a subcompact.

Just stating my opinion. The Fit I was looking at was definitely a $22k car. It had the features and options / upgrades of a $22k car.

To each his own, and if you like it well and good, but some of us buy drive train and engineering, not features and upgrades. For 22k I got a Yaris, with an optional new Tacoma.

Yes, to each his own, but some of us buy refinement and engineering. For 22k, I'd get this Fit.
This is a Yaris forum though so these are the kinds of responses I was expecting.

For 22k you can buy a lot more refinement as well. Put bluntly then no Fit is worth 22k. Nor is any Yaris still on a dealers lot worth that much for that matter. The people at a Honda forum would tell you to buy a well optioned Civic. I would be looking at Corollas myself, or wondering if I dared to place a bet on a new Mini M. Kindly stopspeaking disparagingly of our forum, as no one is forcing you to comment here.

"Worth" is subjective. I don't like how the Civic looks so I wouldn't spend 22k on it. I do like how the Fit looks and with all the upgrades and options (like the one I saw at the dealer), I would spend 22k on it.

Subjective is subjective. If you would chose to spend your money on a relatively inexpensive, simply engineered, unadvanced vehicle with over priced adornments, so be it.

I really don't know you are talking about. Are you taking my opinion of a vehicle, courteously stated, as a personal attack ? I suspect you must be quite sensitive, most likely overly so.

 :respekt:
God to see there are others out there that share my exact same views on cars.
Although, I can't think of a single manufacturer that I wouldn't buy a car off. OK, maybe Tata or G-Wiz; but that's because of what they sell, not the badge. And I guess because neither are sold in Australia.
As for the Tiida (what they call the Versa out here), well I don't like them but they are much better than the Micra... :barf: Personally, I wouldn't buy a new Nissan; I've always been a Datsun man, always will be.
Really, though, these days it's hard to go wrong with any new Japanese car if you do your research and shop around.

I see you changed your reply from this:

to this:

So what do you mean by "I really don't know what you are talking about"? I still have the topic reply notification from that post if anyone wants confirmation that you really did post that.

I didn't see a personal attack. Some people like the FIT, some people don't. :iono: Not worth fighting about, if you ask me.

Actually I did post it, for about 15 seconds, and though better of it, and corrected myself. I didn't expect that it was up long enough to be seen. I like them both as well. actually it was more like 5 seconds

No point in continuing a thread devoted to discussions about hating the Yaris or hating the Fit for that matter.
