Kaotic Lazagna

24th and 25th is absolutely the latest I'll go, and even then I'll still be iffy.

Kaotic Lazagna
08-06-2009, 02:18 AM
I can most likely make that weekend (22nd or the 23rd).

Gideon
08-06-2009, 02:21 AM
With this much notice I can just request both days off, so no need to vote.

Kaotic Lazagna
08-06-2009, 02:27 AM
hahaha, what if it will be the weekend before?

MiniTRD
08-06-2009, 02:37 AM
Hate to be a nag, but dates are posted . . . if we don't select a date, then we'll never have a meet (we'll never find a time that works for everyone)

I can make the 29th better than the 28th as school is just starting and I provide IT/Network support for three schools and a school district.

Kaotic Lazagna
08-06-2009, 02:48 AM
hahaha if it looks like more people can make it to that weekend before, then Hassid might change it. Otherwise, like I mentioned in the other thread, those that can't make it; i.e. me, won't be there. hahahaha.

LMAO. Rusty (GuySmily) if he's going. But I don't think he'd want to take pics since he's overly busy with an engine swap and editing the pics from the last meet.

no photographers? great.......great~ This day's not going well for me already.... :(

Dates have been posted like MiniTRD has said, you guys have till 9pm TODAY (to notify me by PM) if you guys can all make it on the 22nd or 23rd weekend...if not, its a go on the 29th (4 votes leading) for sure then~

Night....

Kaotic Lazagna
08-06-2009, 06:49 AM
hahaha, if it can be switched to the 22nd or 23rd and we have a PROMPT vote, then I'm up for it. If not, then sticking to the 29th and a no go for me.

contraband831

I have a general idea where it may be: on the right side of the freeway, coming on 101 south towards the city, between the exit to Mill Valley (Blithedale Ave.) and the next exit (I believe, that would be Tam Valley junction or Tam Valley Rd.

But that's not really specific, i know. I do too need the address.

Sorry I have been checked out so long, I was on vacation, and now I'm sick. Anyway, The Facility is located at 799 Redwood HWY Mill Valley, CA. Also, GPS and Google maps have absolutely no idea where it is, when you try to get directions, it basically takes you right past it. I will post directions later today, I can't remember the exit number or how it is marked. Luckily, Mill Valley only has about 3 exits in each direction. The whole thing is not even on Google Street view, and can't bee seen on Google earth due to tree cover. BARBARIC!!!

PS. You can add me to the list too for obvious reasons :)

In that case, you went 1 exit too far, but it basically leads down the same road. It is not the exit for Tam-Valley, you can either take the exit that goes to the ferrari dealership and turn right and come back down the frontage road, or just take the exit before that and it is right there. On 101-s you can take the exit right after Blithedale.

I will get more accurate directions posted up later with Pics:smile:

It would be better, but some might be too involved in school by that time since project syllabus's get handed out and frustration begins lol...

And NorCal is just simply lazy, unlike SoCal folks

If you're coming from the East Bay there is only one toll, @ the Richmond Bridge. Take the Richmond Bridge, then exit at Sir Francis Drake, and take 101 South there, or if you miss that exit (which is easy to do), exit at San Rafael, then get back down 101 South. No biggie.

If you're coming from San Francisco, then you'll only have to pay toll once, when you get back to SF.

If yo'ure coming from SF and going back to the East Bay, then no toll.

Maybe i dont mind spending $8-$10 on bridge toll... ~_~

Yeah, they sure did, some weirdo shot his G/F but he's in jail. Millions of people cross the bridge every day and don't get shot :)

If you're not comfortable and you want to use the other bridges instead, then you'll have to get to Marin from SF (which is a little bit of a detour) but not that big of a deal either. Get to SF via Bay Bridge, then find 101 North. You'll have to pay toll twice.

BTW, let me get this straight, you live in Fremont, but you're afraid of the Richmond bridge ?:headbang:

I really don't know off the top of my head. Let me think about it. Maybe CAliYaris knows?

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing actually, would be nice to have a couple of pizzas or something to eat not too far but if you can't eat that'll s..ck for you to smell the food.

Well, there used to be a Round Table in Corte Madera, not too far, next to the freeway a couple of exits away. Pizza is usually a crowd pleaser.

The problem for me is that I don't know how much time I'll be able to stay after the meet (don't worry, I'll stay long enough to take plenty of pictures for you all :)

Sorry I haven't given directions yet, I am retarded at navigating freeways in Marin so I have to ask the facility manager (my dad) to tell me exactly what to say for directions but I keep forgetting to ask...

Also, there is no longer a round table in Corte Madera, it is now a bank. The round table moved even closer to the storage facility though, it is now just around the street at the strawberry shopping center. There is also an in/out and mcdonalds if pizza isn't your thing.

Oh, that's right, I forgot about the bank.

Just ask your dad to give you directions from the neearest freeway exits, and give us the name of the facility, and we can google map the rest. I think I found directions the other day but I wasn't sure it was the right place.

There is only 1 freeway near there (101 North or South) so that's the easy part . Is the place near the hardware store? (if the hardware store is still there!)

Just wondering.

I just saw a modded Yaris, blue, 3 DR LB with nice wheels, a TRD sticker on the side, some stuff on the dashboard suggesting more mods than meets the eyes on that car, real cool seats. I wrote "come to Yarisworld.com " on a piece of paper but a card would have been better.

Or, is there a Yarisworld template I can print cards from ? I know there were a few threads about that but I lost track of them.

Actually, I think I'm going to cross-post this, hope it's OK.

COOL!!! I'm really excited. I've never been to a Yaris meet before !
(even washed my car over the WE, hopefully, it'll stay somewhat clean between now and Saturday)

When I googled the address this afternoon, it gave me this:

http://sanfrancisco.kudzu.com/merchant/map/7866476.html

I've never been there so I don't know the exact location.

Getting to the freeway exit is pretty easy because there is only one freeway (101) going North / South.

Could someone confirm the name of the business so we know exactly where it is? Thanks :)

I am not sure how long it is, I am guessing about 1/4 mile, but there are speed bumps. If speed bumps are not an issue though, I am able to pretty much turn completely around at each end of the facility, I am guessing the sedan's turning circle isn't any bigger than the LB, so you can kind of lap it as one continuous enclosed track. I will also have a jack and stands with me which might make it easier to put the brakes on. Also, if you need longer than a quarter mile, you can drive up and down the frontage road which is generally uncrowded and about 1 mile each way.

I looked at Kaotic's pix of last year and they really looked awesome. I sure like the picture at an angle with the nose of the Yari sticking out.

I don't know if i can top these to be honest! It'll depend on the space, the light, is the sun going to be behind us or in front of us, that sort of thing.

Sorry, you're gonna have to call me Tomato, it's my nickname, has been my nickname since long before I bought the car actually (long story).
I'm serious, too!

Oh, the camera, it can do up to 12MP, Ithink but I never set it that high because the files are huge and impossible to work with, plus take a year and half to load to my computer, so I usually set it at half that, 5/6 MP. Don't worry, the pictures will come out just fine (unless of course we're facing the sun directly, but that shouldn't be the case early afternoon.) but we have to decide how to compose the pix, so you'll have to help me with that. If you want close up of engines, and parts, that's OK, the camera does pretty good macro shots - although I imagine the parts are not THAT small, even on a Yari ;)

Last years meet pics were taken with an old 5MP Kodak point and shoot. My D40 is 6.1MP I believe. That's really all you need. In fact, you can probably go smaller since we resize our pics to be smaller anyway. 12MP is for pics that you want turned into big posters or something.

As for composition, I would like the sun to be behind the photographer and in front of the cars. I was also thinking of doing a half circle picture with the owners possibly posing in front of their cars. And if it's possible, a full circle with the picture taken from above. Also, if that's possible to take pics from above, a fun shot would be to take some blue painters tape, and have each Yaris (depending if there will be 10) have a letter from YarisWorld on it's roof.

Maybe I should show up early and keep you company? I never did put on that 2d coat of wax on my car actually, like I meant to last week, cause it takes so damn long by hand.

Do you by any chance have one of these cordless tools you can use to polish the car in 15 minutes?

Unfortunately, no awesome polish thing, just plain hand sponge.

For the people who are going to be there early: would I be able to drop in early and get help disassembling my right door panel? I've been getting this nasty rattle since a couple months after they took the door apart to get my speakers installed.

You're right about the sun and you're right about 12 MP. I *** NEVER*** use that setting, except on rare occasions when I know I'm gonna have to crop the picture a lot and I'm pretty far from the subject.

Now, I don't know if I can photograph all the Yarii from above, though, I'm not that tall. I could make up some sheets to put on our plaques "Y" "A" "R" "I" "S" W" "O" "R" "L" D" you know, or just "YarisWorld" in fact, I think I'll make some tonight and bring them to the meet.

As to having the owners stand in front of their cars, personally, I'd rather keep it informal, just the cars. Whoever wants their picture taken for the forum, fine by me, but if others want to stay under the radar and not have their picture posted online, I respect that, no problem.

So if people just want to drop in and talk to Garm or whatever, just come, don't worry about pictures, I mean it! Just come and hang out ! :headbang:

UPDATE: I don't have the right font to do a huge "Y" "A" ... etc. but I can do a "YarisWorld" sheet of paper about the size of a California plaque.

Does anyone have graphic design stuff on their computers? I don't have much software here.

Do you know if there is a shady spot or if the whole area is exposed to the sun? I might put on a coat of wax if there is a shady spot available. I didn't have time to put on the second coat of wax last week, so now I need to wash the car again and do it. ACtually can't wait to see what it'll look like with 2 coats of Meguiars NXT

That's a great idea about using yarisworld on our plates. Be great if each owner could get a letter perfect number of us like you stated. Anyone got a really really big sharpie?

advocate
08-28-2009, 04:25 PM
Really really big sharpie? Maybe we should just print out a letter on a piece of paper, put one letter on each car, then take a picture.

Also, is anyone going to have a half-decent jack there? going to try and order some lowering springs and have garm bring em up to the meet. All I got is the factory yaris one which definitely has room for improvement

OK, I just made about 30 "YarisWorld" signs, printed on 8 1.2 x 11" so people can attach them to their plates.

I'm bringing a couple of sharpies, too, in case you guys want to write stuff like your yarisworld name or something underneath, but they're not really big, just the regular kind you use on moving boxes.

Does anybody have any scotchtape? I think I"ve used up most of mine.

tomato
08-28-2009, 04:42 PM
I can't print a big letter, I don't have the software to do that. Maybe we can draw them. Anyone feeling artistic? ;) I won't have the time to do that tonight, sorry.

Shall we make a list of what we need to bring (besides the Yaris;)

- sharpies and "Yarisworld plaque" signs (Tomato)
- tape (?)
- camera (Tomato, Advocate, maybe Kaotic)
- jack ( )

1. I Am bringing a jack but no stands. I decided Im gonna have the springs installed, or maybe do it another time when I can borrow a spring compressor from autozone.

2. There is no roof access or any way to really get a pic from above.

3. I have duct tape (in metoerite metallic )

4. If u want to wax ur car, you should probably get there before 10am, otherwise there is no shade until like 6pm. we might be able to use a vacant unit for shade, but no guarantees, we only had 2 units available as of this morning, and we might have already rented them by now.

5. I have never disassembled the door panel or anything, but I will have my laptop with me, and I have the Yarisworld DIY manual on it!!!

6. It is going to be HOT!!! Wear sunscreen, hat, sunglasses unless you want to fry, no shade all day.

7. We have cold, refreshing bottles of water in the office fridge for free!

UPDATE: Scratch that, I don't want to drag the jack all the way around my apartment complex and load it in the trunk since I wont be doing the springs tomorrow.

Most people would jack items left around and not bother telling anyone. Makes me want to keep the car even longer if i have to do an engine rebuild past its lifespan...

There is a place where we can hang at Pt. Richmond (it's not Richmond, it's actually a neat little place between the Richmond bridge and Richmond, completely different feel though. People come and bring their dogs, kids, barbecue stuff. I've never seen that park full of people, though, it looks like it's one of these well guarded secrets or something.

Just an idea, of course. I'm sure there are many of these places all over the bay.

No, it's not on a hill side, it's by the water, actually.

If you want to be on a hill, there is Marin Headlands (by the GG Bridge). You could probably get pretty rad pictures from up there, but the problem is that the place is very popular and it's hard to find parking for one, let alone 15 cars!

There are a few areas by the beach, with great views of the water and perhaps even the GG bridge in the background if the fog cooperates, from the East Bay. I'll keep my eyes open for potential locations.

Other areas in Marin by the Beach are easy to find, but in Marin, you coud hit serious fog without warning if you're near the beach.

Skyline has some amazing photo ops. I drive up there occasionally for work. Although I haven't seen a good place to do a BBQ yet, it could possibly just be a place to meet up and take shots before we move on and find somewhere to do a cook out.

Also as far as the cruising went I thought it was awesome and had a lot of fun but would've preferred a slightly quicker pace / a lot less traffic
