View Full Version : Can I fit this 9" wide wheel in the rear?

Can a 17x9" +35 offset wheel fit in the rear? Or is the offset too low?
Definately would need the fenders rolled? Correct?
Or could a 18x8.5" +38 offset fit for sure? Also with fenders rolled.
Also, what kind of tire would be needed?
Thanks!

Just wondering why you want to run something that wide on the rear? I figured you would want something wider on the front for 2 reasons 1 bing we have front wheel drive cars and 2 you have a s/c putting all that extra 30+ hp. If I'm not mistaken you are also running the 13mm PG hub spacers that might be some good info to add to your first post

yea are you realistically putting down that much power to the rear wheels that you need that amount of traction. If not your just slowing the car down with that wide of a wheel. Jeez, i only have 8.5 in the rear of the MR2 and that grabs fine for the power i make, I could just see it drag down the yaris

I think he's trying to go for a "hella flush" look. Like they say, if you're not rubbing, you're not flush enough.

lol. im obviously not getting them for performance. sorry garm, i would keep the SSRs until I die; or the yaris dies. the wheels i am looking at have a nice lip and was just curious about those wheel sizes and if they would fit. i would obviously also be getting a wider wheel in the front.

they would obviously be removed.

lol, so they are for a flushed-look then. I say do it anyway, regardless of fitment. You can be in the Wrong Fitment Crew. hehehe.

well i always loved wheels with a nice lip. I don't mind the staggered look on a yaris; even though it's retarded because the yaris is FWD.
Here is the wheel and it's different sizes. I know the brand is crap, but it's the only wheel that offers the kind of lip i'm looking for and that has a design i like. If i got the wheels, i'd definately need to black out the center caps. :P

I don't think Sportmax is that crappy of a brand. I was about to get the 039's actually.
Your choice is very nice. I love that lip!

i think you may still need a 5mm spacer (maybe smaller??) in the rear (since you may rub on the shock, the front wheels on that set up are 17 x 7 so those are fine. I say go for it, I was looking at the same wheel, but in gold with a polished lip.

Yah I know the 17x7 +40 would work up front. It was just the question of the 17x9 +35 in the rear. I doubt it could fit.
Also, I wouldn't buy these if i was only to run the 17x7 +40 all around.
And what about the 18x7.5 +38 offset. Could that work on the front? If so, i'd like to run the 18x8.5 +38 in the rear... err
But I don't know what size tire to run with these? And I don't like that stretched tire look either.
Kaotic Lazagna

How about a subtle stretch?
PETERPOOP
08-06-2009, 03:54 AM
lol. yah, subtle is fine. nothing crazy, and you know what i'm talking about!
ps: I really am not looking for that "hella flush" look or "vip" look. Just want a nice wide wheel with a good lip.
i like this....

and don't want it to look like this....

I like the fitment on the 8. On that sedan, there's too much poke for me. That's Wrong Fitment Crew status. hahaha.

the 8 is flush, so you are looking for the hellaflush look; you just don't want to be called hellaflush, how about HellaPoop. lol...
well i hope you find the wheel and look you are going for.

For a 8.5" you'd need it to be +45 to +50 offset. For a 9" make it +48 to +52.
It would sit "flush", but 100% rub on fender - yes, a fender roll and pull required if you don't want rub.
Beware of inner fender/strut if going that wide.
Good luck!
I love lips.

ok, well how about the 18x7.5" +38 offset? Could I manage that all around?
yarisugi
08-06-2009, 11:51 PM
It'll stick out of the fender a bit - probably less than an inch.
PETERPOOP
08-06-2009, 11:58 PM
but how would the turning be up front if i rolled the fenders? Still rubbing?
yarisugi
08-07-2009, 02:43 AM
Rolling the fenders would give you clearance on the top part of your fender, but if the wheel is too big in diameter the edge of the fender where it meets the bumper may rub when you turn, but judging from some Yaris here with 18" rims, there doesn't seem to be any problems... yet?

turning full wheel lock would be the only issue but that would happen rarely (u-turns...etc), the TRD wheels are 18x7.5 et42 so by rolling the fender and a little camber you will have no poke what so ever with the 18's you want.

I was eye out some 18x8 but was worried about rub. But I have NFs, I read somewhere that someone had 18 with NFs and had no rub. I just dont know how wide it was. Anyone think it will be a problem?
yarisugi
08-10-2009, 02:51 AM
18x8 - depending on the offset. +42 to +45 would still be OK I think.
Taiyaki
08-10-2009, 08:57 AM
offset is +40 ><;;
Penguin Garage
08-10-2009, 11:21 AM
it really depends on tire choice.
a 205 at +40mm offset and a 8" wheel will have less fitment issues then a 225 at +45mm offset on a 7.5" wheel.
you can run a 205 at +35mm in the front and the tire is pretty flush with some camber.
there isn't alot of fender to "roll" on a Yaris Hatch, you'll be pulling the fender.
also i'd suggest massaging the fender lines in the front and the bumper attachment points in the rear.
remember to run "aggressive" fitments you have to be ready to do the work to make them fit. These aren't "bolt-on" per say.

Don't worry Taiyaki +40 is not far from +42. Like Penguin Garage said, tire size also makes a difference.

Its has 215/35's
So what do you think guys? will it work without rub (or not that much rub)
kngrsll
08-12-2009, 08:49 AM
I have a 15x7 +25 wheel offset. there was NO rubbing. I installed 10 mm PG spacers (making the wheel an effective 15x7 +15) and there is now rubbing.
the 9" +35 wheel extends 15mm more than the 15x7 +25 wheel, so it will rub.
the 7.5" +38 wheel is 7mm closer to the body of the car than the 15x7 +25 thus it will NOT rub.

Have you seen my thread, I got xxr 504's 18x8 +32 offset all around as this is the only size available in this wheel. I believe the lip is a gigantic 3.5" all wrapped in 215/35's. The back sits perfectly flush for my liking with a little rubbing when going over bumps at faster speeds, the front would fit better with a +35 offset probably as it sticks out beyond the fender a 1/4 of an inch or so, it does not rub at all. Also i would have liked to have gone with 225/35 tires to protect the lip of the rim better however i'm positive i would have encountered alot of rubbing issues. All this dropped on trd's 1.2 all around. So to sum up I think any wheel/tire combo bigger or wider than this you will for sure have major rubbing issues without fender modification. Hope this helps.

what you say makes sense. your setup is 6mm wider than mine. i have no rubbing, you say you have light rubbing. the spacers are 10 mm wider than my previous set up, which is 4mm wider than your current set up and has heavy rubbing.
so the maximum offset is somewhere between 15x7 +25 to +30, or with an 8, it is about +33 to +38.

well peterpoop what did you end up doing? i'm curious as i was debating with 17 or 18's and of course not going for the power direction just straight looks since the car only goes from home to work on all residential areas. but all in all it's always the tires that are the cause of rubbing. lol

hey. well i ended up saying "screw it" and I never got the wheels. however, i did find wheels that i wanted to get, but they weren't 9" wide or even 8". They were going to be 18 x 7.5" +42 with a 2.25" lip. But yah, sorry, no helpful information here.
