Nope, the map lights can't really be set up that way without splicing a bunch of custom wiring together.
Just replace the dome light that DOES light up with something much more powerful, like an LED panel or similair. Solved the problem nicely for me.

If you can snake a wire from the dome light to the map lights it would be easy to make the maps turn on with them.

I havent gone and looked, but it might be easy.
I think a coathanger straightened out and fished from dome light hole to map light hole, could pull the wires thru in a few mins.
Then a few connections and all 3 lights should work with the dome light switch and door switches. Probably not be able to click on a map light or 2 though, would have to switch on the dome light.
Someone should link to a better bulb for the dome!

I just found an even easier method. Both lights come into connector 4K in the fuse panel. It's the connector in the upper left of this pic. Snip the white with the black stripe, connect it to the pink, leave the map lights clicked, and they will come on when the door opens.

The only problem with this is that that it would eliminate being able to turn the dome or map lights on when the door is closed.

couldn't you just squeeze a jumper accross the holes the two wires go in? then they both work in tandem... ?

No, that would short the ILE output on the ECM to ground. It is the output that creates the fading effect. It varies the voltage from 12 Volts to ground over a time period to create that effect.
