So its about time for some new tires on the Yaris. We are nearing 65,000 miles on the stock tires and are in the market for some new ones. Any suggestions on a new tire? Right now we are leaning towards the Yokohama AVID TRZ or the Touring-S due to high reviews on Tire Rack and of course, the low price.

I just got new tires last week. They're Michelin Harmony 185/60/15. So far I really like them, I find them to grip the road very well, especially on the fun on-ramps. I chose them over the Yokohama Avid TRZ as the Michelin's have more treadwear. The price was only a $2 difference between the two.

I bought a set of Yokohama Touring-S from tire rack and they are great. I live about an hour from a Tire Rack warehouse so I picked them up myself to save $ on shipping. Then I took them to Wal-Mart and had them installed on my 07 for about $30. They have been on since December and they are wonderful!

I got my eye on the Harmonys also. Maby this spring as I only got about 1.5k miles so far on the OEM tires.

Man, I'm envious... I got 22,000 miles out of my OEM Potenzas; mind you, I drive a mail delivery route, so there is LOTS of starting, stopping and maneuvering in every mile...

Wanted Coopers (anyone had experience there?), but settled for Hankook (Korean); I don't expect great things out them.

do you have the bridgestone Potenza stock? I have 33k miles so far... and think I might be able to make it to 50k (if it doesn't snow next winter).... Might have to buy tires sooner simple due to snow issues otherwise.

I had cooper tires on my mazda.... they were ok.... can't remember exactly what size or type I had on tho, that was a few years ago.

Cooper CS4 Touring T (780 AA) is a really good tire, I've sold a few. A Kia owner has the exact same Goodyears that's on my Yaris, except they're 195s...she said the Coopers had way less road noise than the Goodyear...should last about twice as long.

be glad you didn't get the coopers, we put them on the wifes car nd we hated them, road noise was unreal and traction in the wet really sucked !!

Yokohama FTW. I've run all different types over the years and I prefer the Yok's to anything else.
The only thing I recommend is running a set of winter tires and summer tires. Even if you want all-seasons for the warmer months running real winter tires in the winter will save
you all kinds of aggravation in the long run.

+1

We sell probably 15-20 sets of tires per week, so I have had a chance to see just about everything out there tire wise. I recomment the avid trz's UNEQUIVOCALLY. they are an AWESOME tire, not too pricey. keep 'em aligned and rotated and they will wear very well. We have never ever ever had a single comeback on a yokohama tire.

I've never sold harmony's on a yaris, but on camrys we havent had great luck.

I list avid trz in 185/65r15 at 83.95 ea
harmony's at 107

The CS4 Touring T? They're a premium touring tire known for low noise, long life and smooth ride.

Dunlop Graspics have been great for me. Blizzaks are nice too.

When my original tires wear out (which I expect will take a long time), I'll only look at two numbers to choose replacements: Treadwear and price.

I replaced the OE Bridgestone's at 53k with a set of BFG Traction T/A's. My first choice was the Michelin Harmony's but I couldn't find them anywhere. I would not get the BFG's again as they are pretty noisy on the the highway. I sell quite a few tires each day (working at a dealership) and Michelin's are by far the best riding tires.

I still got "Michelin Pilot Exalto/AS" tires on my Celica (it was my DD) and they are without a doubt the best AS tire I ever had. They excell in every area which is remarkable considereing they are AS.

I'm sold on Michelins.

Michelins MS/LTXs (trucks only) on the Tacoma. They handle nicely refuse to wear out. Falken 912s on the Yaris, great instant improvement in handling, but they seem to be wearing rather quickly (as expected), but then again they were so cheap ($50 each)that they can be affordably replaced.

I had Yokohama Avid Touring, and then, after 4 years of quiet and comfy ride, one of my set of four developed a bubble (on my Nissan Quest). The shop said that the tire was defective but, prorated, a replacement was pretty expensive. Went with cheap chinese newcomers called Prime Well, a decision I immediately regretted since my MPG went down 3-4 miles and the ride is not the same anymore.
Lesson learned - even the best out there can croak, but still be more enjoyable and reliable than what is sold cheaper. Go with Yokohama or some other better known brand out there.

Me too: the lowest on the first number and the highest on the second.
