It's true, the Yaris is built at Toyota's Valenciennes factory in France...not too far from where I used to live outside of Mons in Belgium.

Yarii are built in Japan, France and Thailand for different markets :-)

Mine came with this most reasuring tag: 100% Japanese content. The car was designed by Toyota working with a studio in France that designed some of the best known Citreons working with the designer who designed the last Celica. They definitely make them in France but these have never been brought into the US. They make them Thailand as well, for the Asian market.

I know the question has already been answered, but just wanted to add that they have many Yarii on the roads in France, only it's a slightly different model. I got some pics on my HD , will look later and post what I can find. I've been meaning to post these pictures in the forum for a while, anyway.
I don't know about those made for Europe but the sticker on my doorjamb says made in Japan.

It's down to the VIN-code. That's how I found out mine was actually made in Japan...

:headbang:Be cool if we also had the 1.0L here. I'd be in MPG heaven!

Yeah, I'd be happy with the 1.0L gas burner.
I'm right happy with the 1.5, actually.
But I do love Diesels with all their quirks.

67mpg it can have all the quirks it wants!

Oh yeah, for sure! I'd rather have Diesel quirks than hybrid quirks. Toyota doesn't want a vehicle with "conventional" technology rivaling their hybrid for economy in this market.

I snapped these Yarii in France a couple of months ago. It looks to me like the body style is slightly different (notice the window in the back is like cut?) and of course, they have a bit bigger engine.

hmmm I'm looking at the back window of mine and those pics and I can't tell any difference... If you mean the back door windows, I think the windows on the 5 door Yari are the same. The bottom one is the previous generation, isn't it?

Yep, the one with the big ass dent in the door is the old first generation Yaris that sold in Europe, Canada and everywhere else except the US from 1999–2005 (we had the Echo during that time period, as did Australia, Hong Kong and several other Asian markets. It also sold as the Echo hatchback in Canada from 2004 to 2005).
I have seen tons of second generation Yarii in Europe and, other than the engines available, physically they are no different than the ones we get here. Well, there are some differences (taillights, etc), but the bodies are the same...

Do the European ones also rock the hole in the front bumper for the towhook?
Basically the cars sold in the US that have the spot for a front towhook in the bumper are built outside of the US. Notice how the Camry doesn't have one sold here in the states? That's because the ones sole here are built in the US.
The JDM Camry has it.

Kanto I believe only does the sedans......
as I stated in a previous thread, open your hood (if you have a sedan) and look at the back left corner of the underside. you should see a sticker that says "Kanto auto works" on it.

Yes, that's correct. Here are the cars they build in their two factories:

Yeap, we also have the round toehook cover. Actually, both Japanese- and French-made Euro-market Yarii have that IMHO.

Mine was made in Japan. So much so, in fact, that I found various Japanese checklists and papers in my glovebox when I first picked up my car from the dealer. I guess they forgot to toss those out. ;)

Yeah, my bad. I just went to look at the newer models online
http://www.toyota.com/yaris/photo-gallery.html
and they do look the same. I haven't seen them around though, just online. Most people are still driving the same as mine, 3 dr LB, around here, it looks like. :iono:
