I buy a cluster with tachometer for my yaris sedan and I try to exchange the original chip of the clusters to keep the current mileage of the car but then when I connect the cluster the display appeared in white without mileage, clock, gas meter... any idea about this problem? btw: sorry for my english...:frown:

Based on some recent postings, it looks like the the only method (for now) to correct the mileage on the cluster is to have the dealer do it via the TIS Techstream tool.

Today I went to the dealer to see what else I can do and they said that they can't repair the cluster and the only option is buy a new one  so what else I can do?

Live with the wrong mileage for a while. I am looking into a solution, and now I have a spare cluster to experiment with.

I think he tried to transplant a chip on the actual gauges to have it "swap" mileage...i could be wrong.

Hence why he doesnt readout anything. No mileage, gas, clock, etc...

Thanks - I totally missed that.
Swap the chip back. Apparently, the cores are not compatible.

Was at my local dealer on Saturday, they informed me that "tampering with the ODO is illegal," and that they cannot under any circumstances chage it.

I've always heard that (in the USA) it's illegal to tamper with the odometer at all, anything that could potentially cause the mileage represented on the odo to be different than the actual mileage. I'm not familiar with the laws in PR (I dunno how that works being a territory or whatever it is that it's called) so I'm not sure how that would effect you though.

He is not trying to change it. The screen is blank and he doesn't want it to be blank. At this point he can't even tell how much gas is in the car. He just wants the screen to display the time, gas level and the correct miles of the car.

Yes but by removing the chip and whatnot, if you drove it while it was out would the mileage still be counted on the odo or would it be disabled? I don't know how they work, but I'd guess that if it isn't displaying anything (unless the display was just broken) it also isn't tallying the mileage.
If I'm wrong please feel free to correct me. I just don't want anyone to get in legal trouble for something silly like an odometer.
