Now after owning my Yaris for a year and looking every day for my fellow Yari owners. I have YET to see 1 modded out or even slightly modded Yaris, hell not even one thats lowered. Are there any Yaris gatherings in the So Cal area??? I see on this site that some of you guys sometime gather at Toyota dealers lots. Anything So Cal???

UM...you haven't visited the Cali section have you??

There is a weekly meet on Thursdays at the Sonics in Anaheim--at least 1 or 2 Yari go there every week or at least every other week.
There is at least a "drive" a month.
Then there are the shows, there is one at the end of this /err next month.

If you ever get frustrated with a very slow Sedan center exhaust on the 215 or 91 commuting between San Bernardino and Perris, that would be me. You'll sometimes see Brian or SandieoVitz around the Riverside/San Diego areas.

And there's nothin wrong w/ that...

yea some of the wandering Californian members on YarisWorld NEED to check out the California board....we have meets for NorCal and SoCal going on all the time~ I've dragged 2 or 3 already to that board, apparently they had no idea it existed:tongue:

The sheer volume of Yarii sold for the general A to B drivers make it much more common to see a stock one...I've never seen a modded one in person myself, after 4 years of owning mine...

As much as it seems commonplace on Yarisworld, in North America the Yaris is still widely considered a basic no-frills econo-box, pure and simple...Those of us whom are into JDM or EDM culture know there's much more to a subcompact than just affordability...

The other day while looking for some metric bolts the guy asked what I needed them for, and he thought it was just hysterical (in a good way) that my Yaris was supercharged...

Cheers

+1 the number of Yaris sold in the US vs the number of people on yw still makes the chances of seeing a modified yaris quite slim.... And I get the occasional odd look from people asking if its supercharged and why, usually followed by 'that's awesome!'

Just today coming home from work I saw 2 Yari L-Backs. 1 was smashed in the front with parts hanging off and flappin in the breeze & the 2nd was filthy dirty with a smashed windshield. WTF??? And yes, just stockers.
I will say the only MODS I've ever seen is when I was in Thailand.
I would like to go to a local So Cal (Orange County) gathering if something is in the near future.

I saw you on the 215 south a couple months ago. I usually drive up to Moreno Valley
every weekend or every other weekend.

I just really like mine as it is.

I could see getting a sway bar, but I can't see ever lowering the car around here, if anything it needs slight lift.

Lighter wheels would probably be really cool I guess.

To be honest, I'm actually surprised when I see a stock Yaris and I'll definitely wave.

Hehe, yes, you've passed me many times over this year. The first time, I tried honking but it was useless, you were half a mile down the road already and I didn't want to speed up. And I work every weekend I'm on the road from 5 to 6 pm.

For every modded Yaris, I have seen about 3-4 stock ones pass me.

I'm in Riverside and work on Ontario, but also have to drive to Sun Valley every once in a while. There's several of us in the IE, but unfortunately I've yet to be able to make a meet :frown:

I see a lot of Yarii and the only mods I see beyond aftermarket wheels are only seen at meets.

i actually kinda prefer it this way for a few reasons:

1. It's more rewarding when you actually do see a modded one.
2. Police pay no attention to you because the general crowd who drives it isnt irresponsible. - If you drive a honda fit or civic thats just lowered with wheels in the wrong neighborhood you could get pulled over. But a yaris, especially a sedan lol no way
3. You can take more pride in owning a nicely modded one because you know that people dont see something like that everyday.
4. People underestimate this car all the time. You should see the look on some peoples faces when I downright destroy them through twisty roads or canyons. That in itself is rewarding enough!

For example- I have one of less than a dozen yaris sedans in california that has or will be extensively modified. It would probably be really rewarding for me if people respect the work I have done to the car because they have never seen that done to a yaris sedan locally.

Long story short, Im not complaining, I like it this way!!

So I'm not alone (AdeJong) & I'm with you on feeling the rewards of having one of very few modded Yari's on the road. I'll keep looking for you guys & gals of Yaris world and maybe some day something in the So Cal area will have a get together. I would LOVE to see everybodys rides in person. When I drive home from work tonight I'm sure I'll be feeling a little unique in my moddie.

on the CA forum, there is a show on Sept 27, the Yaris has its own category.

Most of the modded cars I see look a bit comical/crappy...so I've built up a certain resistance to the concept. Furthermore, I have never been able to justify performance mods for what is for me a perfect daily driver, although I do respect those who mod and track their cars. I have often ventured to the brink of mod-dom...only to realize that it was (for me) a bad idea.

So some of those stock-appearing Yarii may, in fact, not be completely...and if they are unmodded, it may be by deliberate choice.

We'll have to meet up sometime, where exactly is waynesville by? Im doing a photoshoot in about 3-4 weeks when i get the car the way i want, maybe you could come to the STL and he can do a photoshoot of both are cars. He is a good friend so its free.
