well luckily this is not time sensitive so any time it's found it'll be ok- my dealer will reset the odo btw to match my ECU so I'm good to go when I find the part. Thanks for your help Mike- I do think these are hard to find but I'll keep at it because I just don't care for the aftermarket look- as nicely as some have done it, it's just not my style.

At least your dealer agreed to reset the ODO. I just called mine and was told they can't do it, that they're programmed from directly from Toyota. What a bunch of BS. Oh well, I guess I'll have to live with the lower mileage on the new cluster!

if you can get to Crystal Toyota in Greenbrook you'll be ok Mike
don't know where you are in our fair state

Hmm not sure where that is. I'm in Middletown, which is central NJ, close to Sandy Hook area.

Green Brook is Somerset county 5 miles from the county seat in Somerville on route 22
the humor of this situation strikes me today- you have the cluster and i have a dealer to reset the odo- between us we could do one car properly

LOL. Looks like that dealer's about 40 minutes from me. I'll have to give them a call.

I did get my car there so that might have helped me with this issue- They fussed a bit about it before relenting- just like they did before shutting off my seatbelt chime via their computer hookup.
Good luck- they seem a bit better than most dealers to work with.

Any idea who you talked to? After getting transferred to three different people, I was told they can't do it either.

It was a middle aged guy- forgot his name- the service manager.
I think your best bet is to just show up there- and ask for the manager- it'll take 5 minutes for them to do it if they agree. The damn thing is that's the way I got their ok - phone was hopeless- when I thought the crook who sold me the cluster I just returned sold me one with a tach- and it had no tach after all.

Yes. AFAIK all the "S"'s are automatics and the cluster has a gear indicator display in the lower right corner.

there's a thread on the Board that says the manual/auto is interchangeable post 2007- but of cause there's the issue of the lights - PDRL
Lewis

i believe/hope that on a stick the PDRL lights just don't light up?

No the PDRL lights won't do anything unless you have an auto. Mine is a 5 speed and they don't light up on my car.

are the PDRL lights very noticeable when non lit Mike?

good- you know i wonder how long it's going to take to strike paydirt? The cost of a new one just seems totally out of line to me- the prices i've seen on the board here for new range from $420 up! so it'll be used or nothing i think.
Still checking everywhere i can think of

Yea my dealer wanted $520 and none of the places I called will sell it new without first verifying the mileage and programming the cluster so I'd say used is definitely the way to go...assuming you can find one, of course. It's just that a parted-out 2009 "S" is gonna be a rare thing to find.

came close a couple of times on eBay- but i just don't want to forego the ABS light for safety although I could probably live with big KmPH w/ small Mph.

The gauges on the 08 are also shaped and colored differently than the 09

I have the KPH cluster, and it only took me a few days to adjust from reading MPH to KPH. Not a big deal whatsoever. If you're worried about the ABS light, talk to CTscott about that warning light. He's incredibly knowledgeable about the Yaris's electronics and he'd probably be able to help you with getting that light working on one of those clusters one way or another. BTW, my cluster cost under $80 including shipping on eBay.

tried them both Mike- still no luck
I'm hopeless regarding auto electronics. While I'm sure CT could rig something up that works- but for me- realistically it needs to be plug and play.

The combination meter gets the ABS info via the CAN bus, so unfortunately there really isn't a way to add the light to a non-ABS cluster.

lol no I meant that perhaps you could rig an external light that would do the same as the light in an abs equipped cluster. This way, finding a cluster with a tach won't be as hard.

Understood. My point though was that ABS is controlled by the ECM and the only indicator output is via CAN BUS message to the cluster.

The required cluster is proving virtually impossible to find for me. I'd really like to do the switch but in all honesty I wouldn't go as far as it would seem to be necessary to modify a cluster without the ABS light. There would always be the question in my mind whether the ABS is really ok. These warning lights are wonky as they are without a fool like me messing with them. Right now my 6 month old car has the tire pressure warning light lit and when I checked the actual tire pressure the tires are all ok. So it's to the dealer to get it fixed under warranty. Imagine getting your dealer to fix this problem with a modified cluster!
