Hello guys.. I have a 2005 Vitz with 1KR-FE 1.0 liter engine.. and a question too. :P

I want to know that how is it timed? Does it have timing chain or that serpentine belt does that? If the serpentine belt goes bad, or slips, or breaks, will it be out of time? Well it will be if it doesn't have timing chains.. hence the question

If you Google "1KR-FE timing chain," the first several hits are the posts you've put on several fora asking this question. A few hits down is this one from Toyota: http://www2.toyota.co.jp/en/tech/environment/powertrain/engine/

You'll note the reference to the "chain cover" on the 1KR-FE engine. It has a chain driven valve train, like the other Vitz engines.

You could just call Toyota and give them your VIN, they can tell you.
