correction: The xp cd can be used with any same generation label (sp0/1/2+3) using the code on the bottom of the computer.

I have it installed on a dell that came with Windows Me,so I dont know where you got that from.

sorry for the continued hijack. but if you installed xp on the computer that came with ME and never entered a product key, then there is a key on the disc already, and if it is used more, then you are going to have activation problems with computers that are installed with the same disc ( ie same code) in the future. just FYI.


Im editing this post to include my response to your next post.

thats what I mean. the code is IN the installation on the disc. EVERY XP install needs a code, regardless if you type it in or not.

Nope WinME PC never needed a code,so that was 2 computers,the 500m ,and inspiron 5000,no promblems.

fine, you guys can keep using it and sell it and have everyone run into windows activation issues. not my problem, sorry for trying to be informative.

Well Im not gonna say how many dell's I have installed a similar Xp cd on with no problems for the past 3 or so years,not with this copy ofcourse,but Ive run threw plenty of pc's that didnt have ,or come with a reinstall disk,I think I know what Im talking about,and this is an SP1 disk,all upgrades to SP3 had no problem.
