I got my first computer over 30 years ago so, I have no adversion to technology.
However, I never got a cell phone due to the fact that I have little use for one and I relish the time when people can't contact me.
In this day and age however a cell phone is becoming almost a necessity.
So, today I signed up for service.
I just got A Nokia 6085 which is plenty good enough for my purposes.
Anyone else holding out or was I the last one one earth?

I would have never gotten one, but Im never in the same place for long, so family, my girlfriend and my boss need someway to get ahold of me.

I always enjoy climbing a hill, lighting a fire, and sending smoke signals to my friends and relatives...

I got a plan that disables texting and only costs $9.50 a month.
as I haven't been a teenager for many decades.
I got it just for emergencys and ocasional use only and there will probably be some months that I rarely use it at all.
This is all without any long term contract and I can modify the plan at any time to include web browsing and/or texting, etc.
Anyway, I can't wait to get my new toy.

I held out for a long time, too...now it is my only phone. Even though I deal with gadgets every day in my job, I tend to steer away from them in my personal life as much as possible.

I don't have one but I don't want to mke it easy for people to get in touch with me, beside I'm tight with money and they are an additional expense

I had planned to be the last one on earth myself, however I succumbed in January. I got a Samsung phone with a prepaid plan from Verizon, of which I have used about $75 worth to this point.

I have yet to get personal cell service myself actually.
Working for wireless telecommunications companies for the last 6 years make it unnecessary though. (And as I result I've had more cellphones than most people will have in their lifetime. )

I think the justification is the answer to why I don't have a cellphone! I have my privacy, and the boss, the family, and the (non-existent) girlfriend are those I can call or can call me when I am home. Perfectly happy, thank you...

Perhaps you can explain to your father how a cell phone can be invaluable in an emergeny like if you car breaks down, etc.
Also, having a camera with you at most times can be fun and useful.
No contract plans can be had for low as $10.00 a month, with "Consumer Cellular" which utilizes the AT&T network.

Sure invaluable as long as you are in coverage. Up here, 5 miles out of town and you may as well use that cellphone to prop up a book...
