Is there any way to run 12" wheels?

I know people have run 13" Miata wheels (and some have found that some of the miata 13's don't clear the calipers). Is there any chance that 12" rims will fit, even if it requires a 1/2" spacer and longer studs?

The reason I ask is that the largest rim diameter for the swamp fox tires that I want to run on Crashy is 12". I found out that the Subaru Justy had 12" 4x100 rims, and they seem to be readily available at junk yards. Before I take the hour ride to the nearest place to me that has them I wanted to see what people thought about fitment.

hub centric rings can correct that.

To OP: Honestly i would drive and buy one to try it. They should charge you maybe $10-20 for one rim.

They are only $15 each, so that probably is my best bet.

Which means the wheel will fit just fine over the hub. All of the wheels in question are lug-centric, they don't require an exact fit on the hub bore.

Not sure you'll fit a 12" wheel over the Yaris front brakes, though.

I decided to try a quick fitment test this morning. I took one of the 12" wheels off of my tractor (with the swamp fox tires that I want to run on Crashy) and tried to see if it would fit over the caliper. Initially the dust shield was in the way, so I removed it. At that point I could slide the wheel most of the way on, but it is very tight. With the dust shield on, the inner diameter of the wheel needs to be just shy of 12". With it off, the inner diameter needs to be right about 11".

On Thursday I am going to take a run to the junk yard that has the Justy wheels, now that I know what measurements I need to check.

I checked out the 12" Justy wheels today and they are definitely a no-go. I found that the minimum diameter to clear the caliper is just shy of 11". The Justy wheels have an inside diameter of about 10 1/4". So, it looks like no 12" Swamp Fox tires for Crashy.

In doing some research on larger diameter ATV tires, I have found 15 tires. The smallest of which are 26x8x15, which will clear my lack of fenders, but I am not sure if they will clear for turning.

you could always relocate the calipers/rotors to the differential a la H1 Hummer :wub:

She's an auto. There's not much clearance on the differential. That's an interesting idea though. The other thing I was thinking is to swap the fronts for another set of brake drums.

I was taking some measurements this evening and I think the 26x8x15's will actually work (steering and all). They would actually give me a 1" lift from the stock 24" tire diameter.

The tires that I was looking at (off my tractor) are 23x8x12 tires, so I would lose 1/2" if I was able to use them. They also come in 25x8x12, which would add 1/2".

It is bent. She has quite a few bent parts. I just replaced her bent axle and bent lower suspension arm on the other side.
