I absolutely, positively HATE those horn blasting alarm armers!
What kind of lazy-ass, inconsiderate idiot needs a horn to be able to tell whether the alarm is on? The beep-beep sound that some make is OK. It's the horn blowing models that make my blood boil.
Hearing someone's horn honking at all hours of the day & night, all over the neighborhood or in the apartment parking lot every time some idiot has locked the car is really aggravating! Every time I hear some asshole arm the alarm at midnight, I feel like leaning out the window and blasting the driver & car with a shotgun. Have you ever been passing in front of someone's car while they walk off and arm the alarm, blasting your ears in the process? It's a real invitation to violence.
As you can tell, this is my pet peeve....

I don't think I've ever heard or seen an alarm that blasts the actual horns when arming. I've only ever heard the chirp sound when arming.

all GM and Chrysler does it with the horn... like the actual horn.
the best sound i've found is the VW's tiny whinny horn when locking the door :P

The chirping isn't as bad as the horn, but even that's unnecessary. I mean, you can hear the doors all lock, can't you? Why do you need a horn or a "chirp"? How do you expect me to hear all the gunfire with damn alarms chirping & beeping?

Try living in an apartment where the owner of a car has to use the arming with a horn beep at 1:30 am, every night. Some people are just plain insensitive.

Yeah, I agree that those alarms are annoying. And I was told by the guy who installed my full alarm system that the factory "horn" alarms won't even go off if the window is smashed in. Only if the locks or ignition are tampered with. So if they smash the window, they can reach in and pop the hood to disconnect the batter. No more alarm at all.

i'm thinking only OEM alarms are that way.... even the cheap aftermarkets come with an alarm speaker.

There is a substantial amount of whine in this thread. Did you all get your cycles synchronized? :drinking:

My Yaris makes a "chunk" sound as the doors and hatch lock - quite audible.
