Are you really wanting to keep it all Toyota? The 3sgte is a good platform too. If not an SR20 is a really inexpensive way to go too. Motors can be had for cheap and aftermarket options are not as expensive as a 1JZ or 2JZ.

i had a really long talk with my brain and those are my top 4, 3s is nice, so a 3tc, but through process of my brain elimination i came up with these lol

09-11-2009, 12:22 AM
So you're going to stick with Toyota then?

Ok so is it for crusing or are you going to be temped to race it and if you do what type of racing might you get the itch for? Autocross, drift, drag, Or is it going to be for shows?
puetato89
09-11-2009, 12:41 AM

09-11-2009, 12:52 AM

lilredrocket

Hmm. Well I know that the AE86 that NST sponsors has a 4a-gte but compare to alot of other cars in the D1 series he is under powered. The car has enough power to get the job done. Then on the other hand the JZ motors would have enough power to get your little car into a blur. So I guess the real question is do you want a 4 or 6 cyl. motor?
puetato89
09-11-2009, 01:28 AM
im leaning more towards a 6, but i dont discriminate lol

None of the above, lol jk. The one I would go with would be 4AGE only because it's an engine that came in the later Corollas. Like to keep it within the same "family".
But if I had a classic like that, I would stick with the original 2TC motor and work on restoring the rest of the car as clean as possible. Adding fun stuff like wheels, suspension, fender flares, and mild engine modifications, but nothing too wild that would pull it away from the essence of the car.

thanx for the input, i dont wanna spend more than 5k on the car, i paint cars 4 a living so most of the labor is literally on the motor, ive done 2 motorswaps so i might even do the swap myself, but restoring it is 2 much time, money and effort for me right now, but thats something i would love 2 do

I've seen people swap a 13B in those, as well as SR20's.

Like FunctionSpec, I would select none of the above. It looks so clean now why change a thing?
Being that you have a very nice nostalgic in excellent shape, I would keep the original motor. I've never seen an engine bay so clean.
I can't see the motor, but I assume it's a 2TC in there. You could upgrade to a 3TC or 2TG or 2TG/3TC hybrid without any modifications.
I believe in semi-preservation. Sell those rims and get some older SSRs or Watanabes.
...But if you really want to do a swap (keeping it 4 cylinder) 4AG or 3SG.
If you really really really want to go 6 cylinder - 1JZ or 2JZ definitely, no 7M.
If your budget is only $5,000, then 2T,3T is the best option. Florida has tons of parts and shops for that motor.
But keep it in the Toyota family!
I would love to have that car!

The car in the pic is not his. He posted that pic because I couldn't see the other one he posted last night. That is just the body style of his car. Ok since you said you wanted a 6 cyl. would you rather have that over turbo?

No the spacing is different between the lugs. I have seen people do a full conversion but not half way like that. (good eye)

What about a 4A-GZE? I seem to remember there being a good number of upgrades for that supercharger.

With what johnny said about the engine bay being small I would definatly the 4A-GE and turbo it

oohh oks....now I see it...had to compare your pictures with some really small pictures on the internet since I never seen that particular body style. They all look similar with the front end missing, lol. The chrome bumpers shoulda been a dead giveaway that it was a '70s car.
Looking at those pics, I wish I had a project to work on. Been thinking about picking up a '68-'75 BMW 2002. Yeah I know, its not Toyota , but its one classy looking beast
yarisugi, nice clean ride man....what kind of rims was it rolling on?
