So I pull into a local gas station and boom, there is a white liftback with wheels and window tint  Of course I was a little excited since nobody in Oklahoma seems to think a yaris is worth fixing up :iono: So I stop as i'm passing him and he stops and rolls down his window. I'm like "sup man, looks good" and he goes "what are you doing?" all asshole-like then drove onto the street.

I'm thinking, "Trying to say hi to the 1 out of other 4 people in the state who own this car and has a common interest in fixing it up? :iono:"

Anyways, I was expecting a "man, your yaris is sick" or something like that. Not a blank "wtf" stare.

Thought I would share this.

And if you get on YW mr. white liftback with wheels :middlefinger:

I'm sure this person is definitely not on here. Maybe he thought you were gonna do a "drive_by" :D but you surprised him with a "drive-by-compliment" and that totally threw him off.

With the awesome brushwork on your car, he should be the one saying "looks good"!

how did he say it? like he didnt know why you stopped to talk to him or he didnt understand why you were modding your car that way?

Similar thing happened to me a month or so ago. I saw another Carmine Red hatchback cruising towards me (the first and so far only other Carmine red Yaris I've seen) so I honked and waved. I got the same puzzled 'WTF?' look too.

Not everyone is a car guy, I guess. :smoking:

I just figured since he had gold after market wheels and dark window tint that he was.

Maybe he's not yari-ntelligent enough to know my car was a yaris with the different headlights and such. :bellyroll:

I pulled into a parking lot one time and parked next to a silver Yaris exactly like mine, and as I was walking to the bank a girl who was walking out just stared and smiled at me as we passed each other and I was completely confused, especially since I was with my girlfriend.

Then as I went into the bank and looked out the doors I saw her get into the silver Yaris next to mine and I was like "Ohhhhh!" She must have seen me park next to her in my Yaris.

Its a mean dangerous world in the eyes of a lot of people these days and strangers are scary. I suspect that might be the source of a lot of the negativity.

I don't see how he could think that but, ok...

Speaking of sightings though, last weekend, labor day weekend, while cruising down the 605 towards the 405, my fiance and I spotted a black lb that had the stock hubcaps painted black and white apple logos on each of the rear windows...isn't that someone from yw.com?

I could have sworn we had a sightings thread before the hack :iono:

The modern lifestyle creates a lot of stress. You can see it daily with the rude drivers all around you. I get stressed out myself. This is not in defense of the other driver, but to say that we need to realize that we are all in the same boat. You were being friendly, hoping the other person would share your expression of friendship. He did not, but you became stressed. Do you see my point. The best course of action is to enjoy your own life and let the others live their own life.

Yes I see that in my commute to work ervery day.

Personally, I find driving to be very relaxing and an escape from the daiily stresses.

I actually enjoy driving. At 62years old, I'm stiill as little kid driving a go cart at heart and this is one reason why I prefer/enjoy a manual tranny.

Anyway, I think the guy is just an a-hole as just about everyone likes it when you complment their car.

I know this may come as a shock to some of you, but some Yaris owners only see their cars as....gasp....nothing more than economical transportation! Yes, it may seem odd to us, but there are some in this world who view our beloved machines as a way to get from point A to point B.

Since our cars are not as common as say the Beetle or Civic I am usually quite surprise when anyone actually knows what model it is. Normally, it is a comment along the lines of "nice car" or what kind of car is that?"

As such, the person in question may have been caught off-guard by your remarks. I wouldn't take it personally, nor would I get upset about it; but I can understand as I still get irked pretty bad when I wave to another Jeeper and I get nothing in return...

Cheers! M2

Sometimes when I park the car to go into store, people near, stop and ask about the car. One time I came out of the store and someone was looking in the windows. When I approached, they asked about the car since they had never seen a yaris.
Most people are friendly. Sometimes, there are those that are not or are preoccupied with something.

I agree. They probably do not feel the comradery that we do because they do not visit Yaris World, or they are really not into cars; the car is only transportation. It would be like one of us driving a Dodge Caravan and having somebody in another Caravan pull up and say "HI" like they knew us. It probably wouldn't occur to us what was happening.

Ray, I've noticed it alot around here. Especially since around here in the city it seems like only old people and 16 year old girls drive yarii besides me and klinton. So i get alot of those blank stares from them if i wave or say anything. I just kinda stopped lately.

I never even considered waving at someone just because they own the same type of car I own. Now that I think about it, it does seem a little strange to me to wave at someone you don't know just because they have the same type car as you own. You sound like a Harley rider at a biker bar.

I find this thread very funny. I've noticed yaris drivers are either really excited about the car or just think it's cheap and good on gas. I had some woman come up to me and talk to me for 30 min about the car and even have people point and smile. On the other side I had a girl in a yaris sedan tailgate me for 2 miles. All I know is that every corvette I pull up on and say nice car, they smile and say thanks.

Well, I will continue to say hello to Yaris LB drivers, even if I recognize you on the road, EllenBetty, you'll be getting a friendly hello from me  and I'm no Harley biker dude!

I've always complimented people who drive cool cars, pretty much as long as I can remember. Usually, people driving classic cars are quite used to it, and glad to take the compliments.

Even the Lamborghini guy I saw on Friday,

http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showpost.php?p=388199&postcount=1217

returned my smile when I gave him the thumbs up.

Well, it's kind of hard to do the down low peace sign in a car with doors.:iono:

All bikers wave to each other, it's hardley exclusive to Harleys. Heck, people used to wave to each other all the time in Jeeps.

I find myself waving to other Yarii when I see them, and they always wave back. Of course Yarii are rather rare here, so you kind of do a double take when you see one.

lmao that's funny...

i think he's got an enthusiast type paint job tho...if it looked like a cheap lime green with a ton of metal flake, and if he was rollin on 100 spoke daytons, then i might be a little apprehensive about sayin whatup to him lol...still wouldn't be scared but, definitely more apprehensive...as is tho, i think that paint can only command respect...

in small towns, if you wave to someone, they wave back. they just assume they know you. and if you go for a walk somewhere that's not entirely scenic, you get more than one person slowing down making sure your all right (didn't run out of gas ect...)

it's strange living someplace where you can't approach strangers and make small talk without being cautious of putting someone off or into defensive mode.

and the paint job, looks like you just finished time traveling, or your car is experiencing an exterior paint electrical fire. or something else barely describable. badass. smiley faces and "have a nice day" bumper stickers may help with chatting with neighbors though.

just my random live in a city now rant.

I kind of crane my neck to look inside if I see another Yaris. I try not to be too creepy.. but I always wonder if I'm seeing the RL face of someone from this forum haha. I look away if they're not looking my way.. and they never do. If one day I catch someone I might wave but I have a feeling I'll get a WTF face with my luck.

I can't even remember what my old car was now. Nissan something. But if someone had waved at me when I had it, it would have never registered to me it was bc of my car, or to even look if they had the same as me.

Once, with the yaris, I did see two girls behind me smiling and pointing at the back of my car, and my only guess was because of my plates. Unless they were laughing its ugly or something haha.
