About once every month i get in the yaris, and turn the key to find that it has a hard time turning the engine over. I turn the key, and the engine sputters for a few seconds, then lazily starts. Then, once it starts, its like nothing happened. It idles fine, and runs fine. Does anyone else experience this, or know what is going on?

My place never gets cold.
But my 11 months old Yaris did the same twice so far.
It really is just a few seconds, but it's weird, it feels like 10 seconds :p
So many things run through my mind in that few seconds.

Try using a fuel system cleaner like Gumout, Regane or Chevron, Techron.

has happened to me a couple times but i can count them on one hand. I always chalked it up to the fact that my sound system can drain the battery easily so I figured that it happened to be low on juice at the time.

i don't know about you guys, but do you guys at least let the gas pump does its job before cranking?
or do you guys just put the key and turn it al the way to crank right away?

I just turn the key all the way right away.
How do I let the gas pump do its job?

I've heard people recommend keeping the key at the "on" position for 3-5 seconds and then starting, allowing all the electrical systems(and the gas pump) to fully start before cranking.

I'm at 73k miles and I just turn straight to start(crank) and go, every time.

Ah, I see.
I've seen some people doing that.
I've never turned on the engine like that before.
I always just start the engine right away.

When a car sputters I can't help but think fuel filter. But then I don't claim to be a mechanic.

me too... i usually turn straight to start, until i started experiencing problems, 2 days in a row. That's when i started not going to fast on the key.
