Anyone fancy a clue how long the Rf antenna is for the factory keyless entry?

It's been irking me for a while and I never remember to look at it (somewhere under the steering column) or post my concern on here.

My wife only gets about 4-10' reception out of it no more than say two car lengths.

meanwhile my 2001 civic with factory keyless entry has a range of over a mile.

(i'm just comparing signal strength; not honda to toyota or anything like that)

no the batteries are not bad/weak (i've changed them out frequently with different unopened packages from different brands at different dates)

and I haven't gotten in to see what I'm working with. and I haven't checked the EWD for the system yet either (cuz I'm lazy and I don't know where it is on the computer @ the moment. I'll find it in a few)

thanks for the help or the prods in the right direction....

The antenna is internal to the Door Control Receiver module - There's no external antenna. It's probably just screened directly onto the printed circuit board. Depending on the vintage of the keyless entry it's either 303.89 (separate fob) or 314.35 MHz (fob part of key). With those frequencies and a good antenna you would see about a 200-300 ft range line of sight.

....that's the other thing I was afraid of, it being an internal antenna. don't think the car offers any kind of r/f interference so I need to get up there and see what I'm dealing with....

it's basic separate toyota fob (we were supposed to have the car with rs3200, long story short they screwed us)

I wonder if there is anyway to modify signal output using techstream.....probably not though.....

Definitely not on the techstream question. About the only thing you could try is lengthening the antenna. You could just solder a piece of wire 9-9/32" long to the antenna pad. That would at least give you a 1/4 wave dipole antenna.

hmmm...I'll look into it. thanks

and all techstream let me do is solenoid testing....yeah real helpful....
