**********New Design***************
Soon, this will be cut and on my car! :D
I havnt test fit it on my yaris yet, I have a feeling the downward curve is too sharp.
BTW, for all you techies out there this will be merely for looks and serves no towing purpose.
It will be made through a plasma cutter and about 9mm thick, unless the material isnt available then it may have to be thinner.... hope not!

drawing is not to scale... it was scanned but that odd looking shape at the top of the outline of the lower bumper for reference.

Is it the two loops that come down on the far sides of the rear? If so, those are jack points and also for strapping your car down to a flatbed if needed. I am sure someone could fabricate something, but I never understood rear extended tow hooks. I only use one of those hooks to strap down the kayak to the roof.

hmm.... that I guess that would be what they are.
like I said, they serve no purpose, merely for looks.

I've asked, and I have yet to get a part number for it, they say there is none. :iono:

The universal ones would work you just have to get creative on mounting them :)

The problem I see is that there are no threaded holes to mount in. You could drill into what little material there is and put a bolt through. I might have to go to the shop and see if I have any material around.
I might borrow DandiDani hb and also use my sedan to see if I could come up with something. Would you want something for looks or to be functional also? I only ask because it would depend on the thickness of the material I would use.

For looks alone.
Unless you could make it functional and not ridiculously expensive.
If you wanted something like that made locally, where could you get it made?

I want to get the TRD rear & front took hood too.......I've ask the same question in Japan, they said that everything in the TRD Racing Version won't sell separately(the took hood, seat belt, roll cage)...only the owner of that car can order spare parts of it:frown::frown:

Yeah, it's sorta goofy with the parts from that model. Recaro makes the seat bracket for the driver side (RHD) but TRD makes the seat bracket for the passenger.

Sorry. Had a busy weekend. Had an SCCA event. I rough sketched some ideas. Now I just need to make some measurements and get back under the car. I may not be able to get them powdercoated since the guy I use went out of business. I will search around though.

Good news everyone interested. I made an order for some metal. The design is done for now. I got all of my measurements done. As soon as I get to a scanner I will upload the sketches. I don't have to commit to just one design since I will be able to make almost all of my ideas pretty easily.
I will be making these at a very decent price. Still looking for someone to powdercoat them though.

Sounds good :) Would you be able to sell them uncoated at a lower price?

as soon as I get back home to my scanner. I plan to start this week if my material gets here. I am prototyping one out of some scrap thin stock. Its easier to play with

Sounds good! Im sure everyone would be interested in these... they wouldnt have to be painted.... can you engrave the metal or just cut it?
RHDVIPbB
10-05-2009, 09:38 AM
what do you mean by engrave? Do you want a word on it? If thats what you want then I don't have that tool anymore. However there is a guy locally that has the equipment and the software to put almost any design onto almost any material. I can talk to his son and see what could be done.
I don't have any plans to put anything on the metal, but I may etch my sn on the top part that mounts on the car where you would only be able to see it if when the hook isn't mounted.

They should be. I am not going too thick, but I plan on matching the benen thickness. Now I will say that I claim no responsibility for them. I don't have the ability to test them in a lot of stress situations. The mounts and bolts will be big enough.

Alright guys. You all asked and now you will receive. I got a call today that the material is in. I will have to grab the truck and trailer and go pick them up. Time to get to cutting and making sure my measurements will work.
Anyway, on to the two pics I have for you with my final two choices on designs.

This one is similar to the benen one. I can make it come out straight or have it angled up a little bit.

well if everyone wants it angled then thats how I will make them. I can custom make them pretty easily. The design is pretty simple. I have tried to take into account of those with a lip kit. I will just need a measurement from the bar down to the bottom of the lip kit.

cool. My design is similar to that. I will be using the two holes on the factory to mount to.
Good news guys, I will start cutting next week, so expect a batch to be done by November. Any kinks will be worked out. They will be the vertical ones for now. I might do the flat ones shortly after if there is a demand. Sorry to keep you all waiting but I promise it will be worth it

Still with you on this one angled up a bit if you're still going to make it. Just to confirm with though, this thing *should* be usable correct?
Also, any possibility of a matching front tow hook?

Where it will be mounted should make it useable. I don't see a reason to make a front one because there are a few already on the market.
Mine will be less curved and more angled. Will help reduce flex.

Why not make a polyurethane mold in between the space and use that as a mounting for a bolt. Would make it easier to install and keep the rigidity of the foundation

I do plan on using spacers for the bolts. I don't have the ability to make a mold like that, but I could cut it out myself. I still have time to play with it.
