after searching different sites for cleaning my k&n SRI , i found everything
soap n water , cleaning kit from k&n , water hosing , and compressed air blowing
now i m a bit confused on whats right and wrong
the kit has been installed for about 6000 km ( 3700 miles ) :burnrubber: now
and its still has that light reddish color
but since i live in a hot dusty and sandy country  , i think i should service it much more than often
any tips from some K&N owners ? :help:

6000km and you want to wash it?
Even if you are in a sandy environment you don't want to clean a K&N element that often.
Did you read the instructions on the filter when you installed it?
A K&N filter actually needs some dust build up to properly work. A Just clean/new filter will filter less than one with some dust built it.
I would tell you not to wash it more than once a year.
Oh and regarding the washing process. Do you have the K&n cleaning kit? The instructions are on the box?
Stay AWAY from compressed air... it would destroy the fibers on the filter.
Just use warm tap water to remove the dust and then re-oil untill the filter looks red again.
If your filter still looks red then you are not even close to needing a wash.

When I was into off-roading I read that K&N said their filters would work with a 1/4" of mud caked on them

Buy a K&N cleaning kit. It contains all the necessary instructions and last for many cleanings.
DON'T BLOW IT WITH COMPRESSED AIR. Damage will be done.

.
i think cleaning every year varies from one driver to another , for instance my brother does 500 km a month , and i do 1200 km
in terms of miles/km ... when should i service the filter?
and about compressed air , i already did it once without knowing that its wrong , should i have it replaced or something?

If you want to be conservative you can clean it every 15,000-20,000kms if you are in a very dusty enviroment. However that is still wya less than what K&N recommeds...
Here is some good reading for you: http://www.knfilters.com/faq.htm#4
If you only clean it once with compressed air is probably still ok. just don't do it again.
That's a wet filter. The dust is trapped in the oil you won't get it loose with air... you will only break the thin cotton fibers.
Don't panic when you see the filter all brown.... that's the way it is supposed to be.
